* While it's funny today, it won't be once the Giants FO retaliate later. One problem with the Giants’ plan to place injured tight end Jake Ballard on waivers and then put him on injured reserve and get him ready for 2013: It doesn’t work if another team claims him. And that’s exactly what happened today.
The Patriots, against whom Ballard was injured in the Super Bowl, have claimed Ballard. He is now a New England Patriot — even though, according to reporters on the scene, he’s actually in attendance at the Giants’ minicamp today.

This must be one of those lesser known about, unwritten rules of football, unlike the widely known about unwritten rules of baseball.
LaDainian Tomlinson is signing a a one-day contract with the Chargers and announcing his retirement from the NFL.
There should be no argument about his HOF credentials. In terms of all-around talent and effectiveness in all phases, he's the closest thing to Walter Payton this century has to offer.

No, but I do expect a treatise, complete with cherry-picked stats, suggesting LT as the greatest RB of all time.

A great one... YES. The best... NO.
He will be a first round selection to the HOF. An incredible career.

Rumor has it the Browns are offering Colt McCoy for a late round pick. Colt's whole career has been a lesson on how not to develop a player.
Mangini administration didn't want him.
Coaches berating him and cursing him out through the headset in the huddle.
Giving him the worst supporting cast in the NFL the past two years.
Mishandling his concussion.
On and on. We don't have any Browns fans here for a fuller picture but this really seems like the organization purposefully tried to do him dirty.
For a 3rd year player so mishandled, he would be a great game manager backup-type. Hell, if Andy Reid gets him, watch him get showcased when Vick gets hurt and they flip him for a 2nd rounder in two years![]()

He can only win in the current situation. The Browns are dumbasses.

Surprised no one mentioned Adrian Peterson's arrest.

PFT reporting Matt Forte and Bears have agreed to a four year deal!! No actual terms yet and Bears have not confirmed but, if true, will be great to have him in camp when it starts instead of a holdout.![]()

4/$32 says a "league source" at ESPN
Apparently so.
He didn't get his $20MM, but it's only a 4-yr deal. Seems like he basically got roughly market value (ignoring the outlier DeAngelo contract)....a four-year, $32 million contract, including over $18 million in guarantees.
After two years of wrangling, Forte finally has his long-term deal at age 26. Instead of playing out the 2012 season on a one-year franchise tag tender of $7.749 million, he now has a contract that averages roughly $8 million and takes him through the 2015 season. The annual numbers are similar to the six-year, $45.6 deal LeSean McCoy signed and the five-year, $43.5 million contract Arian Foster received, but the guaranteed total is $3 million less than DeAngelo Williams...
Now that this is done, I'll bet Ray Rice signs today as well.

I heard 18 mil guaranteed also.
The OT at APOLYTON is like watching the Special Olympics. Certain people try so hard to debate despite their handicaps.
Baron O RIP.
As predicted, the Forte contract served to set the market for the statistically-similar Ray Rice, who signed just before today's deadline -- one more year, same average per year, and more guaranteed money...
The Ravens and franchise player Ray Rice beat the clock with a multi-year contract agreement ahead of Monday's deadline.
The Carroll County Times reports Rice is due to collect $40 million over five years, including $25 million the first two years and $17 million in 2012. With Joe Flacco and Ed Reed set to enter contract years, the Ravens have now freed up the franchise tag for 2013. Meanwhile, Rice's $24 million in guarantees trails only those of Adrian Peterson and Chris Johnson. As a smallish back with a heavy college workload and 400+ touches (including the playoffs) in each of the past three years, Rice did well to land the lucrative long-term deal at age 25.

Patriots to run 5 TE sets?
Visanthe Shiancoe has signed a one-year, $1.2 million contract with the New England Patriots, sources with knowledge of the deal confirmed to NFL Network and NFL.com on Tuesday.
The deal could be worth as much as $2 million, a source with knowledge of the situation told NFL Network's Steve Wyche. Shiancoe had been negotiating deals with the Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles before making his decision Tuesday night.
Shiancoe is one more addition to the Patriots' already-stacked tight end corps. He joins standouts Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, in addition to Jake Ballard, Daniel Fells and rookie Tyler Urban.
Shiancoe, a nine-year NFL veteran, caught 36 passes for 409 yards with the Minnesota Vikings in 2011.

Has anyone read what prompted them to loose Dallas Clark from their stable? Money, I guess?

More news out of New England
The Patriots released running back Joseph Addai on Wednesday, after he failed his physical. However, a league source had said in June, after the team’s minicamp, that the former Colt was unimpressive during spring camps.

Wouldn't be surprised if Peyton calls up Elway to bring Addai in. He seems to have a higher opinion of the back than everybody else.
