I didn't know she was black.. I thought she was some kind of a weird mixture, like Woods, Johnson or Beyonce..
The Dutch guy has simply tried to use some ghetto slang to sound cooler and failed miserably.

barabas, yeah that's right. to describe really black people you might say someone is 'bem negro' (literally, well black). there are a lot of word to describe the various skin tones that people have here as well.

The editor of a Dutch fashion magazine criticised by singer Rihanna for using a racist slur to describe her has resigned.

Eva Hoeke, editor-in-chief at Jackie, will leave with immediate effect after the pop star reacted angrily on Twitter to the article.

The singer labelled the publication "disrespectful" and "rather desperate".

In a statement Hoeke apologised, and said she had reacted "too quickly" when she initially defended the story.

The feature, which incorrectly stated that Rihanna was from Jamaica, used language that the star found offensive.

Aside from the racist term, it said: "She's got street cred, a ghetto ass and a golden throat.

"Now let's hope she won't beat anybody up at daycare."

    Star's anger
Directing her anger at Hoeke on Twitter Rihanna wrote: "There are thousands of Dutch girls who would love to be recognised for their contributions to your country, you could have given them an article.

"Instead, you paid to print one degrading an entire race."

Rihanna also accused the magazine's article of being "a poor representation of the evolution of human rights".

The magazine has apologised in a statement posted on its Facebook page.

In the post, Hoeke is quoted as saying: "I realise that my first reaction through Twitter, in which I indicated that it was a joke, has been an incomplete misrepresentation of what me, and also the author of the article, meant.

"I should have counted to 10 before taking unsubtle stands through social media channels.

"Through this my credibility has been hurt, and that neither fits the role of an editor-in-chief, nor Jackie Magazine. "

Before the announcement of Hoeke's departure, she had described the article as a "bad joke" on Twitter, and had defended the article saying there was "no racist motive".

"It was stupid and naive to think this was an acceptable form of street talk - you hear it all the time on the radio and TV - then your ideas about what is normal shift," she added.

The magazine's publisher said it would invite Rihanna to share her opinions on the article in the next issue.

Poor Rihanna. She's so sensitive to other people's feelings too. Especially religious types...

Barbados is an upscale tourism and offshore investment destination. Our potential tourists and investment clients will surely realise that we’re a classy place because – according to Barbados Tourism Authority spokesperson Rihanna - we normally address each other using the “C” word.

As in (and I quote Rihanna) “Hey ****, get over here.”

We at Barbados Free Press always thought that Rihanna was the wrong choice for a Barbados Tourism Authority representative because the demographic that appreciates her music and public persona is not the upscale demographic we hope to attract to Barbados. Our country (or is that “****ry”?) can’t be competitive in mass-market tourism and Rihanna as our spokesperson doesn’t resonate with the folks who have money… or class. Do we really need more proof?

We get all excited that Rihanna is doing the cover for British Vogue, and then she uses the “C” word in one of the world’s most prestigious fashion magazines and makes it worse by saying that “****” is representative of how Bajans normally address folks in classy Barbados.

Black Bajans speak that way, according to Rihanna. She says that whites want to see her behave as a role model, while most black Bajans are happy to call each other ****s.

Classy, Rihanna – but count me out and, I suspect, count out the majority of other black Bajans too.

Rihanna also has a “****” necklace that she wears to chapel (above), and she’s been known to tweet the word to her 3 million social network followers. That’s our Barbados Tourism Authority girl!

Please. Mr. Prime Minister, Barbados Tourism Authority… it’s time. Please.

    The sooner the better.

I'm fairly sure that although the article above indicates she wears said necklace to chapel, the idea that 'religious types' are particularly sensitized and offended by Rhianna is not supported by the article. The author of the piece never indicates any particular religious affiliation, religiosity, etc. merely his bona fides are he is a black Bajan who finds Rhianna anything but classy. The fact that religious types are brought into the matter is an unsupported non-sequitor.

I thought the article from Barabados more interesting than the other articles which focused on the outrage of 'religious' types.
As a lapsed Catholic I'm well aware of the kind of offence that wearing short shorts and a necklace which says 'c-nt' to a chapel or church would cause.

But thanks for your viewpoint, it was only mildly tedious.

If only mildly tedious, then my goal has been met as it surpasses the post to which it commented upon.

Oh my, how terribly un-zingy and pompous of you.

It was only mildly tedious because you were incapable of making a more interesting post.
