I'm sorry to hear that. Anyway, should we put a start date on this so it doesn't end up dragging on? If need be I'm sure we could recruit some more people from CivFanatics.
Not sure if I want to do 3 diplo games at once, plus the next few months are a bit hectic with a long hiatus in June-July. Also, I dislike preset scenarios greatly. I may be available for subbing once the need invariably arises, but I'm likely out of this one, sorry.

I'll send another PM. We just need one more.

Do you believe in Evil? The Nefarious Mr. Butts
The continuing saga of The Five Nations
A seductress, an evil priest, a young woman and The Barbarian King
Unless my overview of this thread is wrong, the predominant opinion was to "keep it simple stupid" and stick with the preset earth 1000AD map. That said the final word goes to the drivers of this event rather than myself.

Since you don't have host ready to do the hosting, I can suggest you guys wait some more time before ending accepting sign-ins. I am wondering if I join or not, but if we get more players on board, I will definitely join. I kinda liked playing with 18 nations in DOE. Just this time we may need to vote mechanism for eliminating nations who get deserted and no replacement is found within reasonable amount of time. Or we vote one "Lord-protector of the abandoned souls", who don't play in DOE2 otherwise, but takes and plays all the abandoned nations, thus still making sense out of them.
Anyway, I can think of all the other 6 you mention, 5 players could be convinced to join including myself (Lior29 I just don't know). We can get another 3-4 from other sites (Beta from WPC was excited to know DOE2 is forming when I told him yesterday, Elkad from CFC would be interested too, few other I have in mind too) and that's 7+5+4=16 players - so close to 18 players full scale epic diplo-game. We can then use the huge Earth map leaving the Americas to the barbarians.
Just some thoughts.

We're not playing the huge Earth map. We're playing the 1000 AD scenario.
I'm fine with a vote mechanism for eliminating deserted nations or finding one person to play them all. And definitely bring in Beta and others.

I might be able to get a couple more people from CivFanatics aswell, though Jehoshua was the only I knew for sure would like to join in. I'll send out the messages today. I can think of maybe 3-5 more people who might join. GEM would be nice, but I understand the reasoning against it, and 1000AD will give everyone something to do right off the bat.

If u still need one more ill be glad to join.

Yay! I think we should be ready to go then. Kenshin, did you find anyone else?

Doesn't look like it. Got like four maybes, but I wouldn't count on it. We should go ahead and start.
I might join in now that DoF is going to wrap up (mostly) for me soon. That said, I am still quite undecided. I will try to decide by the end of today, but not might have the time until Monday.

DNK
I'll just wait for DNK to decide and then we can begin... oh we still need a host. Hmm.. Seems to be a common bottleneck. I'll check with WPC since they seem to have some server for pitboss games set up.

No mods this time round, right?
I'm confused. Are we taking the stock 1000AD scenario, unaltered, and picking civs, or are we altering this somehow for balance?
As it is, the game scenario seems really unbalanced...

I am in!!

Great Toni!!
Yes, unaltered. I'd love another ship movement mod like in DoE. I can adjust it so modern ships have less movement then in the previous game.
As for the balance, the game isn't as unbalanced as you'd think. I think we could handle it as long as we skip certain civs.

1000 AD is balanced by different AI levels: I think we should use these also as player levels..
Trade is the name of the game..
How do you mean? I usual play Monarch level so like Japan would be a good match for me?
For what it’s worth according to the scenario set up screen the nations and AI levels are as follows:
China - Emperor
Japan - Monarch
France - Chief
Arabia - Deity
Spain - Chief
England - Chief
HRE - Chief
Russia - Chief
Mali - Monarch
Incas - Noble
Mongolia - Warlord
Aztecs - Monarch
Byzantium - Monarch
Vikings - Warlord
India - Emperor
Khmer - Noble
Korea - Monarch
Do you believe in Evil? The Nefarious Mr. Butts
The continuing saga of The Five Nations
A seductress, an evil priest, a young woman and The Barbarian King

So when are we going to get started?

Yea, I don't think that is an accurate guide for our purposes. England or France is in a MUCH better position then the Mali or Inca despite the difficulty difference.
I say we just randomize the civs and players. I think we should adjust the difficulty too, wouldn't want someone like Toni or I to get a civ set on Cheiftan difficulty. We've got 10 with Toni, 11 if DNK decides to play. I'm aiming to start this weekend. WPC is going to host the game.

Suppose I can play. Suggest the 0 score mod and maybe a slight increase to tech bonus modifier (60% instead of 30%) to help keep things more even given how uneven the starts are.
I really dislike the ship mods we've used. I'm okay with a slight alteration, but I feel the ones we've used have been game-breaking navally. It takes a lot of the strategy out of the naval component, and makes coastal civs nigh impossible to defend properly, especially in the late game. I suggest this:
(include x2 movement on coastal tiles)
Note that modern ships are not faster than ground transport anymore, so it doesn't make sense to have them zipping around at 1.5-2x the speed of RR ground units (10-12 tiles per turn versus 8 for all land traffic). Even tanks on roads get only 6 tiles per turn... and they go about the same speed (30MPH vs 30 knots) as modern oil-based ships.
The table isn't showing for me, but it might be because of my color scheme...
I have the components for the coastal promo mod for later ships done, but I can't post it as bbcode isn't doing what it's supposed to with the "noparse" command... Fairly simple to mod in.

Just randomise the civs, if you get one that difficult well then tough luck, the world isn't fair people should learn to deal with that reality rather than (hypothetically) complaining that life (or a civ game) isn't fair or balanced or whatever. Indeed diverse situations should help people learn how to be adaptable and aid in creating an interesting and diverse game as people use different methods for different situations.
Oh and I can't see the table either.![]()
Made lower as noble > noble
Higher as monarch > monarch, so:
China - Monarch
Japan - Monarch
France - Noble
Arabia - Monarch
Spain - Noble
England - Noble
HRE - Noble
Russia - Noble
Mali - Monarch
Incas - Noble
Mongolia - Noble
Aztecs - Monarch
Byzantium - Monarch
Vikings - Noble
India - Monarch
Khmer - Noble
Korea - Monarch
Trade is the name of the game..

I can live with that.
However, I think we should give a bonus to the AI. So whichever civs we leave as AI we should make things easier for them. I propose, starting with your list, to make the AI's difficulty two levels easier. So Inca would be Chieftan, Arabs would be Noble, etc. Just to give us humans a bit more of a challenge.

Agreed.
Trade is the name of the game..

But isnt making AIs lower level actually crippling them? At Monarch, they have slight bonus for building and teching, while on Chieftan they have nothing
And where you guys think you are going without the doyen of the diplo-games Mr.Plomp? Is he missing this for real?

Yea, I'm not sure how it works exactly. Whichever direction we have to move the AI to give them more bonuses.
I think I'm right though. If you, the player, is at Monarch, the AI get bonsues. But if you individually set each AI player to Monarch, they should get penalties, right?

I think this is not how it works. I am not sure how the scenario maker made them different dificulties at at first. As far as I know, all the AIs play at the dificulty level you set for the host.
This can be easily tested in WB though - Emperor AIs gets additional archer or something, Immortal - archer, scout and worker and Deity gets additional settler amongst other bonuses.
