The Persians greet their Ottoman neighbors with the traditional salutation: "oh dear Zoroaster, this is going to be a long year!"

This is the Story and Diplomacy Thread for the Diplo LIGHT Game "Destruction of Foes" (DoF)
The purpose of this thread is to post in-character story posts and diplomacy for this game. Please discuss all organizational aspects of this game the Organization Thread. Use your Anonymous Apolyton Game Account to put posts in this thread.
The Destruction of Foes is a Diplo Light game.
The players try to rule their empires like they are real. Role playing and story telling is an important way to achieve this.
The difference with a full diplomacy game is that NO points are awarded for the story telling and diplomatic initiatives. This thread gives players, who want to do this, the opportunity to tell more about their civilization and it's motives.

Section I: Carthage Formed After The Model Of Tyre, Of Which That City Was A Colony
(REPOST)
The Carthaginians were indebted to the Tyrians, not only for their origin, but their manners, language,
customs, laws, religion, and the great application to commerce.
They spoke the same language with the Tyrians, and these the same with the Canaanites and Israelites,
that is the Hebrew tongue, or at least a language which was entirely derived from it.
Their names had commonly some particular meaning: thus Hanno signified gracious, bountiful; Dido amiable, or well beloved; Sophonisba, one who keeps faithfully her husband's secrets.
From a spirit of religion, they likewise joined the name of God to their own, conformably to the genius of the Hebrews. Hannibal, which answers to Ananias, signifies Baal (or the Lord) has been gracious to me. Asdrubal, answering to Azarias, implies the Lord will be our succor. It is the same with other names, Adherbal, Maharbal, Mastanabal, etc. The word Poeni, from which Punic is derived, is the same with Phoeni or Phoenicians, because they came originally from Phoenica.
Trade is the name of the game..
Egyptian scouts have stumbled upon a small barbarian village. They call themselves "Persians".. wonder if it's free to plunder..
Our dreamer 'demographicus' bring good news and bad news:
Bad news, we are the poorest people on earth.
Good news, our people are almost the longest lived.
The gods do not do not even allow us to die quickly in our poverty, but curse us to enduring a long slow death.
Such dreams though are of little value. For the same demographicus claims that our small settlement is producing multiple millions of tons of products - that is a lot of flint knives and untanned skins!
The Egyptian patrol has found a small Turkish city, Istanbul. Totally undefended, almost only women and children.
"-Shall we ransack it, master?
-No, we leave it for now.
-But probably this is our only way to the rumored subcontinent of Europe!
-I know, I know.. it is against my better judgement, but we have our orders form the Great Pharaoh. We leave.I have a feeling though that I will be reminded later.. " I should had destroyed Istanbul" then it will be too late"
The first (armed) Carthag trade mission has found another civilization, the Egyptians.
Since we have heard stories about the Egyptians being peacefull towards other civilizations, called 'the Turks', we are pretty sure they are interested in trade..
So let us show you our wares..
and sir, would you happen to know any other tribes with remarkable products?

Oh, the horror... and we thought such things don't exist in our world. The God Ra (ndom events) is punishing us

We pray for the lost life..
Perhaps Tanit, the Great Goddess of Carthage, the Sky Goddess who rules over the Sun, Stars, and Moon will be kinder to you.
Know that the the palm tree is Hers and will be good for fertility. Also the serpent is Hers as symbolic of the life-force of the Earth. This is why she is also called the "Serpent Lady".
And of course, as becomes Her, Tanit is also the highest Deity of Carthage, and that is why she is also called "the Lady of Carthage".

The gods gave the Persians tin, and the Egyptians raging fire.
~ Xerxius
And wondrously, there appeared in the plains of Pasargadae a new, bountiful forest. "Now," said the shamans, "we know where the gods put the forests of the Egyptians. Surely, this is a sign that they favor us most among all nations!"
To Spain:
Map suggestion for division. The stipled line is a territory that we should discuss in detail the settling. Does this seem fair? The natural border is the Pyrenee mountains, but we are willing to negotiate for Spanis settlement north of the mountain chain at the west in return for a reciprocal concession of some sort.

Carthaginian Trade Company (CTC) is founded
After much consideration about how to improve trade, Hanno II ordered the formation of the Carthaginian Trade Company.
The CTC is comprised of several of the big trading families of Carthage: the Hasdrubal, the Azrabal, the Didan, the Oxrabal and the Leptian families. Each familily has got it's fair share in the company. No further specifics of the exact agreement were published.
As Hanno II puts it:
"The mission of the CTC is to explore and trade. Part of this mission is to create trading missions all across the known world.
We will offer each civilisation we meet trade agreements. The moment our trade network is sufficiently large we will buy and sell all surplus resources availbale."

In the thronging village of Bibracte
Get out! You sought to replace me as chieftain over the Bibracte and you have failed. Therefore I sentence you and all those who would follow you to exile. As the third brother you will have a third of our people to take with you, but they will be the poorest third and no weapons or gold shall you take with you. Yours shall be a harsh existence in the craggy hills of Arverni, you shall there be slaves to all the Gauls, supplying the great chieftains what they demand of you. Leave now and never return lest my great axe swing against you. The village of Bibracte, shall henceforth take their name not from our dying father, but my most glorious self, Lugud! Now leave Lugudun or die!
Meanwhilst on the beaches of Perpignan
Great Chief, our explorers have found many faraway peoples and they all seem to have valuables that we could trade for in return for our own products, all we need is a system to give rigths to those loyal to you and wealth will flow into your coffers. There is also an interesting rumour going around of a people calling themselves the Tradecarthians whose greatest desire is trade, we have ordered our explorers to seek their rumoured location. I am certain that they would be grateful for trade rights with our wealthy citizens in Hamlet.
Simultaneously on the hills of Coulliore
Confused-by-what-ism? What are these peasants going on about? I ask them to work the fields and they come back with strange philosophies and odd ideas. Where have they heard such strangeness? Could it be dangerous, no hardly, thinkers are not doers. It must have come from Spain, those superstitious mountain clans with their temples and ideas of hereditary leadership. A strange people, but harmless. No reason to concern ourselves, there are none that can match the military power of the Gaul. How does this Confusionism work again?
-Master, the Gauls have rejected our offer of free trade and open passage. We don't really speak their language of course.. I think they want some kind of tribute from us..
-What?! How do they dare? Egypt pays for no one, but we are not here to make conflicts we shall find a way to go around their land
-Yes, unfortunately that means we have go back unt..
-Unacceptable.. the Great Pharaoh has also said that we should not waste any time.. These Gauls don't seem to be dangerous. We shall continue our journey with or without their permission. They can try to stop us if they dare..
Hamilcar Oxrabal president of the CTC.
After a non-disclosed voting procedure Hamilcar Oxrabal has been appointed as president of the Carthaginian Trading Company.
In his acceptance speech Oxrabal said the following:
"It is about time the world and it's trade relations are facilitated: we see trade possibilities everywhere..
Let's hope Tanit and the god of Apolyton, also known as RP, find a way to restore the flow of time, so that we Carthaginians can build a true trading empire with profit for us AND for all our customers and trade relations."

CTC Trade Summary Matrix
The Carthaginian Trade Company has announced it will buy and sell the goods of the world.
For trade to flourish prices and availability should be as transparant as possible.
Therefore it is a pleasure the announce the CTC Trade Summary Matrix (TM).
We trade with all friendly civilizations of the known world.

To the great Imre Nagy of mighty Hungary:
Please, respond to our diplomatic request swiftly, as this matter does not allow postponing. With all respect we expect and pray for your benevolent response. May we live in peace as good neighbors. Do this good to us.
Khan Asparukh of the Bulgarian tribe
The egyiptian explorers ignored the demands of the barbaric gallic tribe and entered their territory. Their plan was to pass the narrows and then turn north, they were much faster than those who had pursued them, but they found that the mountain ridge which closed their way to the north appeared to be endless. Soon their scouts reported that even more barbarians, equipped with advanced weaponry, are standing in their way, trapping them. The explorer's leader ordered his troops to fortify themselves on a hill and sent an envoy to the gauls offering his surrender.
The barbarians did not show mercy, they have slaughtered the egyptian party to the last men.. or almost.: a sole survivor has managed to flee and now he is trying to find his way back home (which their ancestors left thousands of years ago)
We have sent a trade offer to the Carthagian Trade Company.
Offer is received, trade negotiations have commenced.

In Gaul
Axes of the Gauls! The Gauls are upon you!
The shouts rang out across the wooded hilltop as the bronzeclad Gaulsmen charged upwards. The Egyptians clearly believed the defensive terrain would deter any attackers. They were mistaken and that realization must have dawned as the sharp axes cut into their unarmored flesh. Despite being outnumbered and having vastly inferior weaponry the Egyptians fought bravely wounding many Gauls. Had their weapons and armor been equal to that of their attackers the fight could have gone either way. Instead they fell. Afterwards Chief Lugud spoke to the last surviving Egyptian:
Your brothers fought well. None cried or begged. Your people are courageous. Yet you refused to give gifts to the Gauls. In Gaul a man must give a gift to his host. His host will give gift back. You walked in our land, but would not give, nor promise to give. Now your brothers have died well. We accept this as a good gift. You may return to your people and tell them of what happened here. The blood of your brave warriors has paid the toll. Your trespass is forgiven. Gaul offers peace.
The People of Lusitania rejoice at the flow of trade from our Gallic friends, allies and brothers. Long have our leaders enjoyed the friendship and support of the great Gallic chiefs, but now the flow of goods - pottery, silver, wine and pigs - brings great joy to our farmers and priests.
Inspired, the great monastries dedicated to the service of God have begun to send out traders, seeking other nations. A fleet being built to see if the stories of the riches of the Car-Ginnians, the trade lords of the old myths, are real.
The people of Lusitania remain weak, hanging onto the far shore of this world, where the sun sets along the cliffs on the edge of the world. They hear of many wonders of technology and buildng in other nations. But through trade we hope to raise ourselves from being pious axemen in the coastal woods to imitate the true civilisation of others.
Travellers from a far have informed us that there are fellow traders in the Great Sea.
Let it be known they are all welcome.
Trade is the name of the game..
"-Here is your magnificent tomb, oh Great Pharaoh, your eternal resting place:
-Yes, very nice.. um very amm.. wasn't it supposed to be a little bigger? And priam..pira.. piradid shaped?
-no
-Alright then great work everyone!
-There is more, Oh mighty Pharaoh, look what your slaves found in the rubble: gold coins!
-Golt? very good. tell my cook that I like it fried.
-Yes, Great Pharaoh"

In Gaul
Chief Collioure: The Spanish have crossed far across the Pyrenees and have settled on the mouth of the river. Our people were marching to settle there and are now lost in the forest without any place to settle. We informed the Spanish that we would allow a settlement directly above the mountains, but this far down the river plains is an outrage!
Chief Vocont: Perhaps we should allow the Spanish a chance to withdraw? If they leave voluntarily we should allow them to resettle where they should be living. (clarification: If Spain surrenders the city they will receive a settler as compensation.) If not, then they must be destroyed.
Chief Allervi: Chief Collioure, you are right to protest their action. The Spaniards were told to not move north of the mountains and now they have. As such I call that we choose a War Chief so that the many men of Gaul can fight as one!
Chief Pearpig: An excellent suggestion, Chief Collioure is a strong chief and has proved himself in battle against the trespassers not long ago. I vote for him.
Chief Vocont: Chief Lugud is the greatest of Chiefs, I think he should lead the Gauls. I vote for Lugud the great.
Chief Allervi: I will vote for Collioure.
Chief Lugud: I will gladly join my kin in destroying our enemies, but as I am aging our younger chiefs must should also have glory, therefore I vote for Chief Collioure.
Chief Collioure: My friends, today I am proud to be Gaul. I have sent out the war message and every chief has answered. Today we are not just distant kin, we are all brothers of Gaul. Under my leadership the trespassers will be removed!

wrong thread I think
The Lusitanians were confused by the news coming from the North. The Gauls had always appeared noble people. Could it be true that they were arrogantly claiming that free unsettled land was theirs by some right of the gods - though Gauls are a godless people. Were they really threatening to burnt rape and kill innocent settlers who had done no wrong to anyone. That would simply be evil arrogant greed. The rumours must not be true. The council sent men north to investigate.
The survivor of the Gaillic massacre has reached his homeland, He got to report to the pharaoh himself. The old Pharaoh listened to the man and cried out:
-Ha, and my advisors told me that the barbarians are only a myth to fringhten our children and they don't exist. It's good that I did not listen to them and we've built this Great Wall.. now those Gaul bastards will have a hard time invading our cities!
Final offer of kindness to Spain before we smash their forces and remove their presence north of the mountains.
Even now we will offer you a settler in return for the land you settled against our will. We do this because we are not cruel, but we are determined, you have shown great courage and tenacity, and for that you have our respect. But if you do not also show wisdom and sense, then you will have our axes as well. Embedded in your nervesystem! To us Gauls war is a wonderful thing, we would gladly bless the land with the blood of your people, but for the sake of not harming the weak, we will allow you to live, if you give the lands we clearly said belonged to us.
This is the final offer. If you reject this as well you will be evicted and you will have suffered no gains, but many losses. If you thought our threats empty, look at the forces we have arrayed against you. And more can be summoned to the region if we desire. Ask the Greek scribe, Demo Grafiks, according to him our army is twice the size of yours. Make the sensible choice! Or the world will remember "Spanish war" as a term for fighting a foolish lost cause.
