That is my understanding as well. "Hillbilly" doesn't have quite the negative connotations that "nigger" does. I don't think the two are equal. If Albie had said "White Trash" then maybe it would make more sense.

And Lonestar, even white trash would be debatable because white trash is qualified. It's only in reference to a subset of whites, not white people in general. The equivalent to the n-word would be cracker, peckerwood, whitey, or honky or something but those slurs are almost comical.

Given the stereotypical depictions of hillbillies as white and the racial demographics of the Appalachian region, I would consider it to have a strong racial component.

Slur's are all about intent and context. You used it in a degoratory way to insult people. This isn't two black people calling each other nigger... or naming an award after it and giving it in pride... you used it to downgrade the town of Kansas and the people that live that.

The only reason why I'm not a Marine right now is because I developed fractures in my legs. I had high marks in all graded events/leadership evaluations.

But what is even funnier is how ignorant your original post was. The metropolitan area of Kanas City (which includes Kansas City, KA) has around 2 million people... hardly the boondocks. And it's hardly hillbilly land, which even as you point out with your "map", isn't even near the highlighted areas. Using your ignorant logic, Philly could also be called the boondocks of hillbilly land since there are hillbillies in the same state, and other areas of the state which could be considered the boondocks as well.
