I edited the world map and started anew and it only lets me play to 1000AD
basically a get rid of worthless terrain edit like mountains and desert

I've never had that problem so it might be a case of files getting corrupted. My suggestion is to reinstall and see if that fixes the issue.

Are you editing the map in a scenario which has a fixed ending date, that could be it?
Otherwise I agree with Oerdin's post.

        Is this some game..
What is this all about. I have never heard of it.
Could someone tell me about its peculiar rules?

I haven't faced this situation before but I guess Oerdin is right, why not copy all your saves and replays aside and reinstall the game. That might fix the problem.

I've in no way experienced that difficulty so it may be considered a circumstance of data obtaining corrupted. My suggestion would be to reinstall and see if that fixes the issue.

Could it be that the scenario you were editing was at a different speed than the scenario you are playing? That happened to me once.

You asked the question a year and a half ago.

Probably all sorted out by now no?
