Uninstall/reinstall?

New year, new computer. Everything's fine and shiny, just that the newly installed FF 3.6.13 thinks it can play games with me or something...
I set up "downloads" so that it asks where to save them every time - but FF always switches the message box to select the location immediately into the background, behind it's main window...so that I have to bring it in front again.
I never had that before on earlier FF installations...I'm afraid buying another new computer wouldn't help. Of course I could just dl everything into the standard "downloads" folder without confirming a msg box, but I'd rather have specific destinations.
Has anyone an idea how I can get FF to behave??? /crybaby

Chrome?

"Capitalism ho!"

Hmmm...wasn't able to iron this out so far, even with help from some FF forums...currently I have given out a download boycott to teach my browser a lesson. I hope he'll come back begging for pardon
Do people really like Chrome? Never cared 'bout it. Maybe I try it now if I can't get the prob solved...

Chrome is better, to me. I still like Opera the best though.

FF4 and Chrome are all awesome in different ways. Opera is crap in so many ways.

Once again...

Yes, that's mostly been Opera's problem. Same problems, so many versions, so little market share. Over and over.

Whats wrong with opera

Mostly the fact that it always comes across as looking awkward with the odd behaviour quirk, combined with hit-or-miss website compatibility.

I use Firefox Portable, and if I ever switch to Chrome I'll use Chrome Portable. There are three reasons for this:
1. It makes it easy to encrypt my passwords and cookies etc - just put the program directory on an encrypted partition. (Yes, I'm aware that there's a master password feature in Firefox, but I'd rather be safe than sorry, especially since I've already got an encrypted partition anyway - plus the master password doesn't protect my cookies.)
2. It makes it easy to sync my browsers between computers. Whenever I need to do a major update, or whenever I need to put the browser on a new computer, I just copy-paste the program directory.
3. It makes it easy to perform program backups, which would have prevented your problem. I backup the program (meaning that I 7-zip the program directory) every 2-4 weeks, so that if the program gets corrupted I can just delete it and go back to a backup copy rather than reinstalling. Including my add-ons the program is 40mb compressed.

#2 is kind of pointless now with FF4/latest Chromes, which offer sync functionality.
Chrome even synchronizes your extensions and settings.

The "extensions" one is the reason I still occasionally sync Firefox browsers, thought not often - I'd had a plugin that syncs bookmarks and cookies for forever (Xmarks, then whatever briefly replaced it - Foxmarks?) before it became an integrated part of the browser, and it's not as though my extensions changed very often (plus they're intentionally out of sync now - my work computer has Firebug, my home computers don't).
