Ender's Shadow was just stupid. Speaker for the Dead was okay but a totally different book. Ender is essentially a brand new character. I was stupid enough to read Xenocide and Children of the Mind. My advice: Don't touch them, they're crap.

Generally when an author goes back to a character they wrote 10 years ago, especially to write a prequel, it won't be anything but unadulterated ****.

I haven't even thought of reading Ender's Shadow. Ender's Game was a good book, I don't want to spoil it.

One of Xenocide and Speaker for the Dead were OK, not great. I don't remember which. Neither spoiled Ender's Game though.

Things I have learned about the Nook.

    1. If you don't use it for 4-7 days, the next time you pick it up it will have no or very little charge left, despite being on airplane mode.
    2. If someone tries to log into your account online and fails, your account gets locked and you can't shop on your nook.
    3. If you change the email on your BN account without unregistering your Nook first, you cannot shop, update your library, unregister your nook, reset the Nook to factory conditions, or change the email on the nook because your Nook is already registered.
    4. Typing on the Nook is a pain in the ass, say if you were trying to change it to the new email as prompted by shopping or updating your library...
    5. The screen is rather fragile, particularly if you have anger management issues.
    6. Even when in full working condition, it seemed a bit laggy when changing screens or loading books or responding to your typed input.

Quasi-related, but I just got an email from Amazon asking me to interview for a job in Seattle on the Kindle team. They said my experience was a great fit for their future plans. I can only assume they are referring to my Android experience...

Fair enough. I've never much fancied it myself, although I have never had the chance to visit either so it is hard to say what I would make of the place.

In Seattle? That is a very nice part of the US.... I think. Maybe you could even live in Victoria?

You can still be a fan of whatever team you are now, and Vancouver isn't that far away...

    Vancouver!!!

The SO is a chemical engineer working in oil and gas also. Not many jobs for that in Seattle.

    Does he often work on-site?

I met a (Canadian) guy who used to work for weeks at a time on drill sites, and got fed up and now works in carpentry, from a shop in his garage. He was here cycling for over two months, and he stayed here for a night,

He visits the site for a couple days every couple months for inspections, that's it.

He mostly works downtown in a glass tower.

I would bet you could telecommunte. If you're at the point where they are actively recruiting you, you have a bit more leverage.

With such viral bias, you're opinion is thus rendered useless. -Shrapnel12, on my "bias" against the SS.
I've never understood how God could expect his creatures to pick the one true religion by faith — it strikes me as a sloppy way to run a universe.

Wow, this is amazing this thread has turned me against the nook and orson scott card. If anybody still likes card I would recommend a planet called treason and Memory of earth.
