The new version number is 1.0.0.62. This patch breaks save games if you have the Deluxe version, but not with the Standard version.

That's the elitist attitude we've come to expect here.

Hey!! Someone changed my thread title without my consent -- it's too informative now.

I didn't KNOW the version number until after Petek mentioned it.

Well, I promoted it to an article, for that I had to make the title more informative. Since, the comments of that article are linked to that thread or vice-versa, I guess I cannot just change the title of the article, without changing the title of the thread.

And it is not even indicated anywhere that I changed the title.

My update did not load until I shut down Steam and re-started it. There does not appear to be a manual way to update the Civ5 version (unlike Impulse and gamersgate). Once I turned steam off and relogged into it it updated and now shows 1.0.0.62 (it showed 1.0.0.20 before) on the main title screen...

Now we just need them to fix the Multiplayer lobby to give us the Gamespy features that Civ4 had (hot join, private games with passwords that actually work, etc)

    awesome patch so far.
i have a barely minumum spec laptop and the game runs well. prior to this patch, it struggled with textures and whatnot, was ful of artefacts, etc. now - nothing of the sorts, runs really well!
dunno what they did to ai, but at emperor now i found myself pinched and unable to roll. also, i have not witnessed much steamrolling elsewhere, might be the improved ai defense. monty, could not penetrate my defences, although he had riflemen against my pikemen and musketmen, but he at least retreated some of them for healing when it mattered. offensive ai needs help.
ai also now builds...NAVIES. woohoo! i have witnessed a lot of them in this game.
diplomacy still erratic. monty is afraid of me, i offer cooperation, he accepts and cancels it the very same turn, citing mutual border. phew.

all in all - first impressions are GREAT. keep it up, firaxis.

also, diplomacy is now tweaked when trading. you cannot milk money from ai and use it to buy all cs. you can get just a bit at the beginning, and later on they basically ask for two luxuries for one given. pretty crude, but at least no exploit. that is why i could not get my economy going on the way i used to.

No reason to let them live either. As it was, the AIs, if they stopped being in love with you, were quite insane on what they demanded for trade. I had more than one game descend into total war with me destroying [insert civ here] because they would want something ridiculous like 9 luxury resources, plus a lump sum of gold, plus gold per turn for a single luxury resource of theirs when, one, I could just do something like build another theater and achieve the same thing and, two, they were in no position to be stubborn.

An AI that gives you no choice but to destroy them - when it's purely a matter of going through the motions - to achieve an advantage is no AI at all. Eliminating so-called exploits at the expense of committing suicide is, at best, one of those six this way, half-dozen the other deals.

It's one thing to rip the AI off... but it's also another thing if the fair trades aren't possible. Why have trading in the game if it comes down to unreasonable demands all the time. They may have gone way to far in the other direction... sigh...

Supposedly this is the list of changes and fixes:

    1.0.0.62
    Released 10/22/2010
    UI

    * Fix for production prompt that sometimes appears with newly created puppet states that could stop the player from being able to end the turn.
    * Aircraft banner corrections – now when you rebase an aircraft, the number will move with it.
    * Resource icons now come up with Ctrl-R again, instead of sharing the same button with Build Roads.
    * Selecting a great general will no longer cause yield icons to appear.
    * Added option to disable auto-unit cycling.
    * Fix for full-screen game when running dual monitors. Previously, the curser could scroll off the “open” side, and not be able to scroll the map in that direction.
    * Misc additional fixes to mouse controls, and other interface issues.
    * Rounded out financial information in the Economic Overview screen. Details now provided on the amount of gold provided by each city, the cost of buildings in each city, etc.
    * Auto-populate save menu with save file name
    * Allow selection of other cities by hex from within the city screen
    * Added detailed trade route info to Economic Overview screen
    * Added new tab to the Economic Overview Screen: "Resources & Happiness."
    * Added option to activate the mp score list in single player (for “always up” score similar to Civ IV.)
    * The Annex/Puppet/Raze popup now indicates how much extra Unhappiness will be assumed with each action.
    * If there are less than 5 buildings still needed to construct a National Wonder, the production popup tool-tip now lists which cities lack them.
    * Added Yield & Culture tool-tip info to the production popup.
    * Tweak information on the Global Politics tab in the Diplomacy Overview screen.

    MODDING

    * Category list now displays correctly
    * “Installed” panel now displays ALL versions of a mod but prevents the user from enabling multiple versions.

    GAMEPLAY

    * Workers - Added option to force workers to ignore manually made improvements (so they don’t change what you decide was best for a plot).
    * Workers - Fixed bug where number of turns to complete were incorrect in build action button tool-tip.
    * Economy - Fixed bug where players could disband a single unit, and not see the economic return until disbanding 1 more.
    * Economy – Increased city wealth setting to 25%
    * Economy – Multiple fixes to the way trade-routes are tabulated and recognized.
    * Economy - Can now sell Buildings in a city (to help lower maintenance for obsolete buildings later in the game).
    * Trade – Found and corrected a Trade problem that could cause your Resource inventory to multiply.
    * City States - Fixed a bug where you could not gift aircraft to city states.
    * Military - Medic promotion now only provides healing bonus for adjacent units.
    * Military – Fix for Minuteman movement.
    * Military – Correct promotions for “archer-like” units (horse archers, chariots).
    * Military - Embarked units will no longer slow enemy land units
    * Military - Improved unit cycling logic. Camera will jump around much less.
    * Balance - Engineers +1 hammer
    * Balance - Disbanding units now provides only 10% of their production cost in gold.
    * Request – Enable “one more turn” button if you lose, but are still alive.

    AI

    * Military – Better handling of unit need (navy vs land, etc.) .
    * Military - AI will tend to build ships to deal with blockaded cities more often
    * Military – Corrected an issue hampering movement of AI armies, especially when in close proximity to enemy forces
    * Diplomacy – AI will be more reluctant to offer or accept open border agreements with more powerful opponents.
    * Diplomacy – Fix for never ending deals (peace, research agreements, etc).
    * City – City specialization and city focus improvements.
    * City - Cities that are Avoiding Growth will not grow while that option is selected
    * Workers – Priority of trading posts reduced, and rebalanced priorities on other improvements
    * Workers – Improved the path-finding mechanic when building route-to roads improved, including a large performance increase when evaluating road-pathing.
    * City - Make sure Puppets don't construct buildings that require Resources.
    * City - Add a Puppet city strategy that turns off training buildings and emphasizes gold.
    * Military – Defensive tactical AI update. When you are at war and threatening an enemy city, the AI will better utilize the garrison, as well as the surrounding terrain in defense of the target city.

    MULTIPLAYER

    * Exploit – Fix for gifting unit exploit
    * Chat – Color-coding, sound alerts, etc., added for in-game chat system, including a larger window.
    * Deals – Additional deal validation put in place to verify deals before they are committed

    MISC

    * Research treaties that end because you declare war will no longer grant the free tech
    * Save/Load – Fix for corrupted saves being experienced by some players in late-game.
    * Map - Huge map crash-during-load fix that were reported on some specific systems.
    * Map – Terrain caching fix that could cause problems for certain video cards (the “glowing red orbs” seen on the map are an indicator of this).
    * Map – Fix for the low res terrain that appears the first time the game is run (terrain tiles would not load in anything but low-res the first time you play on some computer configurations)
    * Strategic View – Crash fix for units rendering in background.
    * Strategic View – Fix for selecting units either standing on a city plot, or garrisoned in the city plot.
    * Eyefinity – Better handling of leader scenes when using Eyefinity displays.
    * Tutorials – Many tutorial tweaks and adjustments.
    * Multiple crash fixes.
    * Taller than wide map crash fix.
    Quendelie axan!

I'd definitely say they went too far. Playing my first post-patch game. Dropped down to King from Emperor - my last Emperor game (pre-patch) I won a cultural victory; never went to war, and traded with the other civs fairly the entire game (archipelago map didn't hurt with keeping the peace). Now here I am on an easier difficulty and I can't make one trade that makes a bit of sense. People are just getting to the medieval age and everybody expects me to hand over 2:1 luxury plus gold for one luxury resource of theirs, some of these civs I even have cooperation pacts with.

That leaves research pacts as the single reason to keep others alive, wow. And I'm sure by the next patch those will be all but impossible to get as well.

I'm one of those generally positive people about Civ V, but the complete and utter lack of reason why we shouldn't destroy anybody who is in our way seems like a huge design mistake. In earlier civ games I had to weigh if the disruption to trade routes and loss of a trading partner were worth the benefits from going to war. Here, as long as I can win a given conflict, the only reason not to go to war is because I don't feel like it, it's certainly never to my benefit to not destroy everybody I have an advantage over, and that's a shame.

Trades now seem like just another AI cheat to me... they probably trade pretty even amoung themselves, but want the world from you.

Again, if the Human isn't able to make any fair deals, why bother having it in the game.

Technically true, but in spite of the vocal minority online, it's probably less than 1% of purchasers of a game like this that ever play multiplayer more than once or twice with a buddy. If I want to compete, there are much, much better options than a TBS 4X game. Ideally, the AIs should simply do their job: play the game as if they are some great leader trying to carve out their out their own niche and make their country thrive. The second you start coding the AI to "hose the human", you have utterly failed in your game balance and design.

About 300 turns into my Emperor game and the trade goes like this:
    - at the very beginning, all I could get is 150 gold per luxury
    - whenever I asked for a luxury, I had to give something more, usually 2 luxuries or luxury plus gold, or open borders (which seem to be worth 50 gold to AI)
    - however, washington seems to like me quite a bit, so he is prepared to trade 2 luxuries for 2. he will not trade 1 for 1 though. odd, but at least he is fair. he is the only one into 'fair trade' with me.

btw, what is the point of the open borders? to let my caravels explore their territory...and...what next, given that there are no foreign trade routes?

I'm at the end of a really good game. I'm glad that I can still play it and would have been really annoyed if the patch killed the game. I only realized that the game was patched when I conquered a city and got to peek inside it. I thought that no one was trading with me any more, even my closest friends, because I had so much happiness or had become the point leader.

I also thought that my video lag improved due to fewer countries being alive (most of which were not because of me), so now I will attempt to play my next game on the largest size map. (My system is barely above minimum specs.)

So, thanks for the patch and keep them coming, but find a way to not automatically instal them on Steam if they could kill an existing game.

    * The Annex/Puppet/Raze popup now indicates how much extra Unhappiness will be assumed with each action.
Is anyone getting this? I haven't seen it in the cities I've taken.

This maybe an exploit, it maybe an artifact of the patch process...
I haven't had time to try and verify it....

I continued a game postpatch that I started prepatch--

I was having no luck trading luxuries for gold until I managed to catch India in the midst of a Golden Age ( or so I surmise ) because they were suddenly showing almost 200 gold / turn available for trade. Immediately previous, they had 22 GPT available, and would not even accept 1 luxury for 5 GPT. But when I saw the huge gold flow I thought, "what the heck" and offered them 2 luxuries for 39 GPT and they accepted my gracious offer!

I will attempt to verify this with another civ, and somebody check it out to see if it works with a game you start after the patch.
There is nothing more dangerous than a large group of naive americans led by a moron.

    * City - Add a Puppet city strategy that turns off training buildings and emphasizes gold.

Actually, I don't think they trade among themselves much. Pre-patch, it was sometimes hard to find a doable luxury resource trade because the AIs didn't have any extras. Now, late in the game they have them, which makes me suspect that they just don't agree to any trades that aren't ridiculously unbalanced in their favor, no matter who is at the other end.

In my current game the AIs rarely have enough money to enter research treaties with me. Don't know if it's a change due to the patch or just the way things have worked out in this particular map.

That is somehow even more disturbing if true. Programmers, who are supposed to be among the more logical and intelligent examples of H. sapiens to be found, ought to have realized nearly instantaneously after re-balancing luxury trading was suggested that if everyone expects triple what a luxury resource is actually worth in this game that nobody will be able to trade them.

I don't get it. One of the things I found very refreshing about Civ V compared to IV was the logical and reasonable nature of luxury trading. I always hated how the other civs expected more and more each renewal for luxury resources in IV even if I were trading one back to them, what? your people don't like luxury resources as much as mine? Now we're even more insane than IV since they're really not all that important any more - getting a per city happiness bonus for virtually nothing when happiness had to be managed per city was really important. Getting a +5 to the global civ happiness when building a couple of happiness buildings works better and is cheaper than trading luxury resources now, not so much.

I already saw this before the patch.
Usually only the 1-2 largest nations would have enough money to enter research treaties with me ...
and in late game (probably due to rising units upkeep) even those would finally succumb to negative income
As part of your equipment, you are to have a trowel, and when you squat outside, you are to scrape a hole with it and then turn and cover your excrement.
