Sick PolyCast Episode 102: "Probably Doing It Wrong"

It's only an observation. The one-hundred-and-second episode of PolyCast, "Probably Doing It Wrong", features regular co-hosts Daniel "DanQ" Quick, "Makahlua", Philip "TheMeInTeam" Bellew and Lisa "qnl" Bang with returning guest co-hosts John "bt_oz" Archer and Solver

PolyCast is a bi-weekly audio production in an ongoing effort to give the Civ community an interactive voice on game strategy; sibling show ModCast focuses on Civ modding and RevCast focuses on Civilization: Revolution.

Hey! This is yet again just another lame clip show

I am the only one wondering why we don't get any civ5 coverage? There should be tons of material to get into. After all it's now almost a month ago that civ 5 was released.

I would like to exploit this opportunity to do some scheming on the subject. My very thoughtful conspiracy theory is that polyCast has a serious clash of interests. Being linked to a single game and developer PolyCast is of course dependent on Firaxis and their benevolence, to ensure good relations. You don't get the lush inner details if you **** on their lawn! As you might have noticed some of the PolyCast members (DanQ, TheMeInTeam) are part of the civ 5 "Frankenstein Test Group" mentioned in the games credits.

Now, being the great civ 4 enthusiasts which the PolyCast members truly are, I simply can't imagine them being quite pleased with civ5. (Personally I think there's a reverse proportionality going on there - if you love civ4 you can't love civ5). Take for instance TheMeInTeam. He never seems to hesitate when it comes to harsh game criticism, and I bet he has quite a lot of it coming towards civ5. But you wonna keep that lawn nice and clean...

So how can DanQ keep his show from stepping on Firaxis' toes?. Well, it seems that so far he has taken the easy way of running old clips from previous episodes when things was still all dandy. But he can't continue doing that forever. He has to come out in the open. But will PolyCast go full frontal nudity or will they play it safe to secure the good relations with Firaxis? Only time will tell...

I considered posting an addendum as to why this episode is Civilization IV focused only at its release, but decided against it. In hindsight I wish I had to put the circumstance into context.

First off, this episode is not material recorded from older shows -- it was recorded as Episode 102 on August 28th before Civilization V's release. Due to time constraints on my part due to "real life" commitments (employment), there is an unfortunate delay of ~4-6 weeks between episode recording and release. This, combined with wanting us co-hosts to have some meaningful time playing the release version before giving 'first impressions', has led to the show not yet covering Civilization V post-release.

Less than two weeks ago that 'first impressions' episode was recorded; though recorded as Episode 105, I am going editing it next for release as Episode 103 given said timing and understandable interest in CivIV. (It will be almost entirely Single-Player focused.) The two episodes after it will be CivIV focused alone, but then we will enter a CivIV/CivV hybrid period of coverage. I am an episode behind in the release schedule still, and am hoping to get caught up by this time next month.
