Downloading to a local PC was sensible when people tended to have one static PC at home that they used for e-mail. These days people access their e-mail all over the world at loads of different locations on loads of devices. Downloading to a single machine no longer makes sense for the average user.

Some users might still be operating in a 90s way, but they are rare, and not who development is being aimed at.

I forward everything to gmail. I have some things which persist on university/etc servers, but then I can log on to those from anywhere.

My N95 could already do that.
I have been using my smartphone (n95, i8910 HD right now) as a wireless spot for about 4 years already.

I just moved from Symbian to Android I am a big fan of Android already. My current phone is a Samsung too, the Galaxy S.

Symbian has lots of great features just feels clunky. Android isn't without it's faults, but it is a much more pleasant user experience.

I've been trying to think about what the most efficient arrangement for my email would be.

Asher, if you were me, and you had a desktop, a netbook, a school email account, and a gmail account, how would you set up your email?

Use gmail, have your school email forwarded to gmail and add your school email as a "From" account in the gmail. That's how I did it in school.

At one point my single gmail account was my mailbox for four different email accounts. I set up rules to label each one accordingly, then it automatically sends replies "from" the email the messages were sent to. And for new emails, I just choose the "from" email that's appropriate from the drop-down menu on the compose screen.

But you can see that it was mailed by your gmail account in the mailed-by field if you have outlook or if you just inspect the message header. You need to set up SMTP for those accounts if you want the fact that you sent it from another account to be invisible.
