  • Hello I'm a Mac

Hello, I was on these forums before I became a mac because I was a highly devoted Civ 4 player on my old cruddy PC, when I upgraded to an iMac the computer worked like a charm but there was a problem, no Civilization 4!? All we get is the original and Warlords expansion and that's it, and now that the complete edition is out i say, can we please get a mac complete version, because like me, there are a lot of us who are old PCs but were tired of getting viruses and having to take in our computer every two years so we went to macs (no mac has had a virus for eight years), but now I get barely any games, and the original and Warlords I'm sad to say just isnt enough to satisfy my thirst for civilization, I would like beyond the sword and colonization but I can't all because, I'm a Mac, let your voices be heard mac users! WE WANT BEYOND THE SWORD AND COLONIZATION FOR MACS!

That's the problem with buying a Mac... you just have to get used to the fact that the world isn't bending over backwards to make sure their software runs on it. It was your choice to buy the Mac, so deal with it and don't expect much support

(You do know you can buy software for your Mac that allows you to play PC games)

        I have a Mac too

& I partitioned my hard drive & use bootcamp to run my games on the Windows side. If you're running Leopard then you should already have bootcamp - you just need to install it. I think you'll find bootcamp better then Parallel or similiar software for running a Windows system especially if you plan on running memory/video intensive software.

I find my Windows stuff actually runs better usng the Mac & bootcamp than running on a Windows machine - it locks up ALOT less. I have no regrets whatsoever switching to Mac. In fact, after using a Mac for a year or so I bought my wife & daughter each one.

            That is good news!

Moving to a Mac was the best thing I ever done. Since then I have been playing BtS on Parallels, which works fine, but it will be even better to avoid running that crappy windows operating system in the background of Leopard.

I am so tired of this Mac vs PC crap, look:

              1. PC refers to a type of hardware architecture and in terms of hardware, there is no difference between a modern Mac and the rest of the regular computers (there are non-PC computers out there, but you wouldn't buy one of those for your home needs, they have different purposes).

              2. The difference between a "Mac" = computer from Apple and "PC" = computer with windows is the operating system. And guess what, those are not the only two options.

I have been playing and modding Civilization IV under Linux for over a year now. Wine (http://www.winehq.org/) handles over half of the windows games without trouble, Civ IV with its expansions included. I think there is a version of wine for Mac OSX, but I am not sure.

              So guys, give Linux:
              - no viruses and crap like that
              - at least as fast and reliable as any Mac
              - there is way more software than on Mac and it is slowly catching up with the PC (the only thing that really doesn't run under Linux are some of the newer games)
              - You get to chose your hardware since LInux runs on more hardware than either Mac or Vista (MS are rendering XP obsolete in a year or two)
              - it is Free

I wonder if this new offering is fully patched and compatible for MP play.

Been running on an iMac using bootcamp to run XP for 6 months now, no problems. (Vista isn't allowed in the house.)

The latest patch, 3.19, for the Windows version is following the Mac release of BtS. So, look for the Mac 3.19 in the coming weeks.

                      Empty can rattles the most

I'm not here to bash Apple products, just their fanboys. I don't run any Apple products not because I think they are bad, but because I just don't have time/money for them. I'm a Systems Administrator worked in the computer field for over a decade, been a nerd my entire life. I love Vista I think it's great, been running it since the day it dropped, never have reloaded it runs awesome, I haven't gone this long without reloading my PC that I can't even remember. Then again I know how to use my PC, and I don't run wide open from the Admin account on an un-patched OS, to every freaky porno site and free screen saver, download strange attachments and then blame Microsoft because it runs slow. In fact I have never had to remove a virus since switching to Vista period and I run it on my desktop, my laptop and I run Vista 64 at work.

Like I said I don't have a issue with Macs, I have an issue with people with no computer science background making uneducated and completely wrong statement about computers and operating systems. I bet the people here slamming Vista never gave it a reasonable chance. I bet the person who thinks that Windows ran better on their Mac is running a Mac made more recently with Intel components so why wouldn't you expect it to run better on newer more powerful hardware.

If you like Mac fine, if you think it's better well it may be for you but it's not for me. Personally I've always been running the latest Windows and some flavor of Linux, I have always been happy with it and have never given serious consideration to switching.

On a side note I just got back into playing Civ4 after a brief introductory run and several years of hiatus, recently found this site and have been using the awesome advice on these forums to try and improve my game.

To all my geek/nerd brothers pimping a Mac, glad you are happy with your product but Justin Long is a D-bag quit acting like him.

Uh, that's nice and all that you feel this way. However, no one in this thread was pimping Macs. Evidently, you've got issues derived from elsewhere.

                              I get out plenty

I get out plenty which is why I don't have 515 post on this forum, and suck at Civ4.

Actual pimping involves having a prostitute in your employ, so in the most literal sense no, are you so bored that you want to argue semantics on a game forum?

I personally am extremely bored, being stuck in a NOC watching monitoring screens.
