  • Units not gaining XP

    Can anyone help here:

My units in Civ IV and in Beyond the sword gain experience in combat untill they have 10 points of XP, then no matter which type of barbarian unit they attack, in a city or not, they simply cease to gain more XP.
My barbarian-hunting macemen are all stuck at 10/13 in my first BTS game.

    Am I missing something here?

    Many thanks!

That's normal. You cannot get more xp from attacking barbarians than 10. This was built-in to the game so players wouldn't set aside an area as a "barbarian spawning ground" and send units there to run up xp strength.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

      Oh joy!

      You've solved the mystery!

Many thanks for your reply, and the reason is good commonsense design as well, I applaud it.

And also remember that you can only get up to 5 xp by fighting animals... to get to 10, you need to fight real barb units
        Keep on Civin'

Some mods, such as FF2, take a different approach and allow unlimited XP from barbs.
