    1. Several minutes into a civ iv game (vanilla or BTS) my computer freezes. This just started happening, although I've played these games on the computer for years. I've got the patches up to date, and my computer (Vista sp 2) too. I found a note on my video card's website that my card (Intel 945 GM) might be incompatible with CIV 4, but I it worked fine for years.

    2. Desperate to keep playing Civ, I'm trying to install it on another computer. I'm getting an error message that says it won't play due to a lack of D3dx9_32.dll, and it suggests I reinstall. I did. Same message.

Appreciate any help getting this beloved game working on either of my computers.

    1. Sudden game freezes often indicate overheating problems; maybe you are having one? Check the air flow and temperatures on the graphics card during gameplay.

    2. Maybe this will help?
    It's a lowercase L, not an uppercase I.

Thanks. I air-blasted the vents and to my astonishment, it hasn't frozen up since. If it still has problems, I'll try the suggestions from that link.
