    I've never quite understood the love affair many in hockey seem to have with all things Staal.

      Marc Staal definitely doesn't deserve to be on there. Nor Jordan Staal.

      It is bizarre.

          the only Canuck was Luongo,
          Which is why he'll be starting.

            Yes, Ben. The Canadian Olympic team will choose its starter based purely on the fact that he is the only member of a sadsack NHL club attending. They will pick someone who has never won a big championship, or even gotten close in his career and someone who folded like a sack of potatoes last year as the games got bigger in the playoffs, and no Vezinas. They will pick this player over someone with multiple Stanley Cup rings, an Olympic gold medal, and four Vezinas.

            All because Luongo is playing for the Canucks.

            No, Luongo will be the 1A...Brodeur will be the starter.

              Let us compare pedigrees:

              Brodeur:
              * Calder Memorial Trophy — 1994
              * NHL 1st All-Star Team — 2003, 2004, 2007
              * NHL 2nd All-Star Team — 1997, 1998, 2006, 2008
              * NHL All-Rookie Team — 1994
              * NHL All-Star Game — 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008
              * Olympic gold medal — 2002
              * Primus World'Stars Challenge Bowl — 2004
              * QMJHL 2nd All-Star Team — 1992
              * QMJHL All-Rookie Team — 1990
              * Stanley Cup — 1995, 2000, 2003
              * Vezina Trophy — 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008
              * William M. Jennings Trophy — 1997 (with Mike Dunham), 1998, 2003 (tied Roman Čechmánek & Robert Esche), 2004
              * World Cup of Hockey championship — 2004

              Luongo:
              NHL Second All-Star Team: 2003, 2007
              Mark Messier Leadership Award: March 2007
              NHL All-Star Game: 2004, 2007, 2008*, 2009

              And lets look at the most recent playoffs:

              Brodeur: .929 sv%, 2.39 GAA
              Luongo: .914 sv%, 2.53 GAA

                BTW, Iginla is also likely to be captain from what I've been reading.

                Or maybe they should make Luongo captain...right Ben?

                  I've heard some rumors of that too, but I hope it doesn't happen. If Sakic plays, I'd make him captain. If not, I'd go for Niedermayer.

                    I can see making Luongo co-captain as compensation for riding the pines.

                      You can't actually make a goalie a Captain.

                          Luongo is 'Captain' of the Canucks, but unofficially. They even painted a 'C' on his helmet because they can't put one on his jersey.

                            Luongo didn't even make the playoffs until a few years ago.

                            He's the best goalie never to win the Vezina.

                            No, Luongo will be the 1A...Brodeur will be the starter.
                            I won't argue that Brodeur is the most accomplished, but his team lost in the first round. I'm not convinced that he's the best this year.

                              Do you realize Canada is not sending the New Jersey Devils to the playoffs?
