  • Funny Random Event

Here is a funny random event. There are couple of funny things:

    1. I am playing a OCC game, without sea access, hence I can never build even a single Carrier. In this context the event has exactly zero effect, potential or otherwise.

    2. One would think that by the modern times (since I can already build Carriers), my engineers would have figured out that steel Carriers work better. The text of the event is funny even during regular gameplay.

    Hope you enjoy it.

IT's cuz you're playing the Japanese. Non-wooden flight decks took a few minutes to catch on with them. But hey, drill III carriers! Sweet! Tora Tora TORA!!
    I'm consitently stupid- Japher
I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Also, that's an incredible amount of forest - especially outside the city radius. Where did you get your science from?

Agree that drill III for carriers would have limited value in any case. As to your point, the early carrier adopters were concerned that plane tires and corresponding deck landings would be negatively affected by steel decks, as opposed to the original wooden decks. Midway gave everybody not yet convinced to make the changeover a clear insight that something had to be done.

What kind of a victory are you seeking?

            - Victory: Space race and won.
            - The map is tiny (4 AIs), level is Monarch + raging barbs. No tech trading and brokering.
            - Only Space, Conquest and Time victories are possible.
            - I am Peter of Japan

            Strategy is:
Early on - beeline for Great Wall and while everyone is engaged with barbs, build the Pyramids.
Then get the Great Library and the science early on comes from specialists and especially settled GP.
Keep on building wonders and such, the AI usually doesn't come at me until Rifleman or something like that. In the mean time I get Civic Service (Bureaucracy), Philosophy (Pacifism) and CoL for Caste System. I use the forest to get as many wonders as possible (I usually get Great Wall, Pantheon, Pyramids, Hanging Gardens (maybe 50/50), University of Sankore plus one or two others).
The national wonders that I pick are: Globe Theatre, Oxfort University, National Epic, National Park (hence the forest ) and usually Ironworks (no coal, but still +50% hammers for iron).

If I have enough GP settled, I may go after Economics for the free Merchant and Gunpowder + Rifling for some defence. If the AI is friendly enough and busy with wars against each other, I may go straight for Biology. Then Medicine for Environmentalism.

By that time I have a good lead in Tech. Just keep it up and use it go for the Space Race. Get Mech Inf. early for defence, the march promotion makes them ideal fot the technologically backwards units of the AI, in that respect Mech Inf + a lot of Drill promotions is better than Modern Armour.. Late in the game I concentrate on Great Engineers to improve city production and I can get a space part in 3 - 5 turns (2 if I get the Elevator + Aluminium)

TriMiro, the victory settings you chose there are really hurting the AIs chances of winning by disabling domination victory.

The AI has a hard enough time achieving domination victory as is and just doesn't know at all how to conquest win.

AI: I sure wish Jon would hurry up and complete his turn, he's been at it for over 1,200,000 milliseconds now.

You are probably right, however, in an OCC I have no chance of winning domination. I hate it if I have to go to war and raze cities just to prevent the AI (and then constantly keep on razing the newly founded cities).
