          Canada has no resources?

          Do some basic research, Dis.

Expert knowledge, material plus the political environment to actually do it? Then why don't you got them?

Because there's no point? Canada enjoys diplomatic advantages to being a country who is not a nuclear-armed country. People tend to ignore us militarily and feel free to trade with us as we're not as adversarial.

                  Seals are a revenue stream.

The problem is not economic but political. Namely the stupid 2/3rds rule which makes it impossible to cut spending or raise taxes. The end of Gerrymandering (starting in 2010 and finishing in 2012) should also help remove many of the extremists though ideally we should also make primaries open as that would push both parties to the center. Then maybe we can actually repeal the 2/3rds law.

                            Don't forget fresh water.

The US is already begging for access to that, and the demand will only increase.
