I was having an arguement with a work colleague that Stoke have a better defense than Arse last Wednesday. I felt quite justified, tbh, but 8-2 was just nasty.

And woot, Crouch playing for Stoke. Things are going to be interesting this year.

God no. ManU/ManC/Chelsea get the first three, and I expect Liverpool to get the other. Stoke can't really expect to finish higher than 7th in the best of circumstances, and would be perfectly happy with a 10th place finish and 3 good cup runs. A bad season would be getting knocked out in the group stage of EL, not making any quarter finals in FA Cup or LC and finishing below 12th.

That said, if Stoke were to somehow find themselves in the CL, EVERYONE has to hope they play Barca, just to see what would happen.

WTF? How are England ranked 4th? I know rankings can skew, but this is ridiculous.

When the England v Netherlands game was called off Brazil lost points by losing to Germany, and we went above them by default. Same reason why Netherlands went top when Spain lost to Italy, IIRC.

How are we anywhere inside the top 10 though? I don't know.

I'm gutted for Scotland. It was shaping up to be a great weekend for the home nations (well, except Northern Ireland but they're even worse than the rest), but the ref handed the Czech Republic qualification.

I realize USA soccer isn't all that popular, but damn if Beckham isn't still able to serve the ball to exactly where he wants it to go.

I really don't understand where the dislike for Beckham (besides jealousy) comes from. The guy is a model professional, and he's actually not smart enough to play the media like people seem to think he does. Beckham

What is your basis in saying that.. Let’s face it that it’s sometimes hard to get a perspective on how unpopular or popular the sport is in the United States. Soccer becomes a mainstream topic in America every four years..
No matter how soccer build itself their are still so many questions and complaints about soccer is raised.. USA is now rank 34 in the FIFA world ranking and let's see how will they perform in the world cup brazil 2014 and see how popular soccer is in USA .. Fans will tell us..

What is the basis of me saying that soccer isn't popular in the US?
The MLS cup drew a rating of .8 Last fall an early day NFL game between Tampa and Green Bay drew a 12.7

I love watching soccer, and frequently watch Serie A and La Liga via ESPN's website, but I don't have any friends who care about soccer except when the World Cup rolls around.

Are we having a Euros prediction competition this year. Looks like interest in football has faded to a low ebb.

Yes, I'm disappointed. How else can I come out of lurk mode to show my utter lack of knowledge about the sport?

Did anyone tell the Netherlands that the tournament has started? They sure didn't seem like they understood while losing to Denmark.

From another forum on today's England vs. France matchup:

I was going to ask if England knows they're allowed to attack, but are England actually allowed to attack? Is it against the rules?

Anyone else notice that if you put "chicken" in front of the names of the Italian players, the results are meals that sound quite nice.

    Chicken Balzaretti
    Chicken Barzagli
    Chicken Bonucci
    Chicken Marchisio
    Chicken De Rossi
    Chicken Montolivo

Spain looked incredible today (even before Italy went to 10 men due to injury)! Wow, what a performance!
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
