    TO: Nations of Terra
    FROM: Pacal Denzez
    SUBJECT: Invasion

Both Rome and Greece have invaded Mayan lands in a despicable land grab.

After reviewing recent foreign diplomacy, I am convinced they have planned this double team invasion for some time.

Fair nations of Terra, know that neither Rome nor Greece should ever be trusted! They have both broken peace deals when their hunger for Mayan land took control over their honor!

    1. Peace was signed after the Great Roman War with Maya without conditions. Maya offered silk and dye as a gift to help improve relations. For this reason, hundreds of years later, Maya gave the city of Lake Voltan to Rome in exchange for assured peace until period 394. The basis for the Roman invasion is that we broke the ancient deal by retracting silk and dye. If a peace deal was already in place, then why did my predecessor hand over a city for another peace deal? It should be added that although Maya can produce a copy of the more recent deal, Rome cannot produce a copy of the deal they accuse us of breaking. This is because it never existed. (OOC: Not too thrilled about being accused of editing the posted peace deal. If push came to shove I could PROVE that was our deal as written).

    2. Greece accuses Maya of not making good on our peace agreement from the battle of Thebes. However, a deadline was never established. When pressed for payment, Maya paid 90% with a promise of the remaining 10% within 5 periods. Greece accepted. Now they say we had 2 periods, which of course we did not meet. Again, as with Rome, low-brow trickery to extort as much from the Maya as possible knowing full well that they planned on breaking the deal. Their accusations that we planned on attacking the Gobi are mere speculation no doubt dreamed up to further justify their land grab.

Maya (and the former Korea) is a nation of free men and women, and it is unfortunate for my people that we live next to extortionist Rome and Greece. Many other nations know this feeling, some from direct dealings with Rome and Greece.

We may not be able to fight with arms, but we do have our policies!

I humbly ask on behalf of my people, and all free people that you all close boarders and cease resource deals with both Rome and Greece. Send a message that although you cannot influence them with the barrel of a gun, you can make your presence felt non the less.

To Rome and Greece: Know that you have permanently hamstringed your vile civilizations from now till the end of time. Maya will NEVER sign peace with either of you and will keep emancipation forever! Even if you manage to wipe us from our homeland, we will maintain our government in the darkest most hidden corners of Terra... forever dragging on your peoples moral by means of perpetual war with emancipated people.

Death to the beastlovers! Death to the greedmongers!

Custos Marcus' Proclamation to the Roman People

    People of Rome

I have to inform you that under my powers as Custos today I committed Roman Naval and Ground forces into operations in the Mayan lands which form the south coast Roman Sea.

The build up to this has been public and known, but I will recap it briefly here.

    Previously:
Mayan pirates unprovoked and unannounced attack Roman shipping
Maya conspires with three other nations to attack Rome, unprovoked, unannounced. During this attack Tribune Hieronymous and the Senate were massacred, and the great Roman city of Satricum captured. As is well know my own mother died in that attack and I came as an orphen to Rome.
Roman forces ejected the Mayan pirates from our lands, recapturing the burnt hulk of Satricum.

While still fighting three other nations, the Romans agreed peace with the Maya with Dye and Silk bieng paid by the Maya in perpetuity as (I quote from the treaty in our archives signed by Princeps Octavian - note how he is not yet proclaimed Emperor Augustus) "a suitable compensation for your capture of Satricum and destruction of many buildings within it".

More recently, on the eve of their surprise attack on Sparta (in conjunction with the Koreans), the Maya tricked Rome into adding to this peace a clause about not giving military support to their enemies. Throughout the Maya/Korean - Sparta war Rome kept to this treaty, although smarting at the trickery in it being signed on the eve of war. For many years the northern Mayan cities, within each reach of Roman shores, were completely undefended, but we did not act. Nor would we while the treaty had remained.

This peace lasted until the recent Mayan actions.

4 periods ago, the Mayan broke the treaties between us. Unprovoked, unannounced, they stopped the shipments of dye and silk and closed their borders to our merchants. Immediately I demanded an explanation from them pointing out that their actions nullified the treaties between us.

3 periods ago, they rejected my complain, insisting that they woudl stick to their actions. At that point I pointed out You say you fear Roman invasion, and then you cancel our peace treaty in the most disresepectual way. Do you not see the irony - if there is to be war between us it will be because you have just cancelled our treaty! They continued to ignore the situation, spinning endless words. I wrote to them formally saying If you do not restore the terms of our treaty Pacal immediately - I will accept no more delay and weasal words - then you will be the cause of the end of peace between our nations.

Then they continued talking, but did nothing. They did not restore the terms of the treaty, but instead started moving troops and ships towards the Roman sea.

Thus I was faced with the breaking of our treaties of peace, and the past history of the Maya, together with the strong advice of our generals and admirals that the Roman coast could not be defended against Mayan attack. I am sure I do not have to remind you of how during the war of the traitors the Maya sank the whole of the Roman navy, and spent years terrorising fishermen along the whole of our coast, destroying and sinking their ships, and blockading cities causing a collapse in trade and starvation.
The only course of action available was to respond to the Mayan breaking of the peace treaty, and the threat and history to Roman lands, and to take action to secure the southern coast of the Roman sea. Only in this way can Roman people live in security.

There are rumours circulating that this action was planned many years before, or that it is in conjuction with Sparta. This is not true. Indeed quite recently Mayan diplomats and military advisors were in Rome discussing a Mayan plan for a sea-borne raid to burn Athens to the ground, seeking to enlist Roman support. This was the true target of the Mayan ships recently see sailing towards the Gobi. As King Menalaus will I am sure confirm by loud complaints, nothing of this was divulged to Sparta. Indeed Roman relations with Sparta have sadly been very poor due to the Piercian crisis and are yet to be restored.

I have full confidence that the Roman army and navy will succeed in this operation, and secure the southern coast of the Roman sea. But, my people, I cannot promise that this will be without bloodshed. The Maya are a powerful and warlike people. Nevertheless faced with a nation which has invaded Rome before, and harassed its coasts, breaking our trreaties and moving forces towards us, there is no option. Our brave soliders and sailors will do what is necessary, even facing the ultimate sacrifice, to ensure the safety of Rome.

Marcus, Custos of the Roman People.

Menelaus just completed his list of nations to abuse for his unnatural lusts in the near future:

    1. Maya (pending)
    2. Russia
    3. Rome
    4. Celtia

    ----------------------------

    Denzez,

You ask if this war from both Rome and Sparta against Maya was planned and coordinated by the both of us in advance.
No, to be honest, we (Sparta) didn't even plan it ourselves. You planned Sparta's invasion of your territory when you sent a fleet to the Gobi to conquer it, when you made plans to burn Athens to the ground, when you lined up a gigantic army to the Taebong river and then even failed to live up to the peace conditions you setted yourself.

I quote the Mayan messenger that came to Sparta to hand me the first 900 gold:

I offer you these 900 gold from our Pacal. Two workers will arrive at Pusan in 2 periods.

You failed (again) to do so like you said, now you face our invasion army.
Remember that this war was started by you yourself when you betrayed Sparta together with Korea not that long ago. We had mercy to you and did not invade your territory when we got the upper hand in the war, and we forgave you. We even accepted your take over of Korea. We were very good to you, but all we got in return were typical Mayan treats and invasions.

You didn't live up to the peace conditions thus you are to blame for the war to continue.

Listen, pathetic Pacal, you are free to live in constant disharmony with your neighbours, just learn to accept the consequences.
Perhaps your people deserve a better ruler who do not constantly put their lives at the stake. When I'll be the King of the Maya I will secure the safety of the Mayan people and certainly not, like you, dare their neighbours all the time with invasions and wars.

Look at your own population, when you ended the peace by breaking it's conditions, your people adopted Pacifism!
Long haired hippies are walking through your streets while you, a short sighted warmonger, is losing territory city by city.

Oh dear Pacal, please come to Sparta.
Let me use you for my very unnatural desires. Be warned though, most of these desires include things with fish and crabs! You'll love it!

    People of Rome,

I am pleased to be able to share with you that the Mayan cities of Uxmal and Mutal have revolted against the rule of the Pacal and have joined the Roman Empire! The mission to secure the southern coast of the Roman Sea against future Mayan aggression is still far from over, but it is heartening that the Mayan people themselves are turning against the Pacal.

Betrayal of Russian Trust and Pax Romana

    From: President Rostislav Vladimirovich
To: All Free Nations of the World

I am disgusted! The hypocracy of Rome knows no bounds! All respect I ever felt for Rome is gone in an instant. You asked that Russian instructors teach your Horsemen in them in Cossack tactics FOR DEFENCE! What do we find? Defence, a foul and vile deceit upon Russian honour! You have used Russian unique knowledge of Horsemanship for nought but a disgusting and unjustified, nay criminal, war upon an innocent nation against all decency.

This is the same Rome that pretended outrage for Russia's mere use of your railroad to fight for Piercian liberty when you craven cowards would not lift a finger to help our ancient allies to escape Japanese oppression? This is the same Rome that threatened Russia with expulsion from Pax Romana for her humanitarion campaign? This is the same Rome that forced Russia to accept an unjust peace because her cowardice would not allow her to face Spartan aggression?

Instead Rome abuses Russian aid and would now willingly join Sparta in the bed of murderous and unjust war! You, Marcus, are a disgrace to the memory of the great Augustus! Pax Romana, at least Russia remembers honour, forbids the immediate closure of borders but expect no further aid from Russia, of any kind! All trade deals are forthwith cancelled and transit over Russian lands or through her territorial waters by any Roman forces is strictly prohibited. Any breach of this will result in unilateral severance of Russian membership of Pax Romana, closure of borders and provision of all aid possible, INCLUDING MILITARY, to the Maya.

As for the vilest man, questionable itself given Greek proclivities, ever to have walked this planet we can but denounce your further crimes! Pyongyang was not razed you claim? We have photographic evidence of your crimes as your men burning down the homes of innocent civilians!

See how the murderous vermin turn their flame-throwers upon this sad City! Where are the celebrating Koreans?

We now hear that, not merely content with defiling the unfortunate grazing animals of Korea, Spartan troops are now seizing Korean horse, ass and mule to send back to their wives so that they should enjoy the satisfaction never to be had from a Spartan man! Mighty they may be with weopons of war but other guns fail to fire!

    In Disgust!

    President Rostislav Vladimirovich

A giant mechanical construct rolled over the hills toward Bibracte, flying the Khmer flag. The thing was much larger than anything the Celtic people had ever seen. It was very loud and moved about not on legs but on wheels. And there appeared to be no driver. A very long tube stuck forward from the dome on top. Although the Celtic people had no need to fear the Khmer, the citizens became uneasy, many of them flocking to the city to hide with friends and family. The mayor of Bibracte sent his most trusted carrier to send his concerns to the new leadership in Khmer. Hopefully the new leadership did not bring a fight between these peaceful neighbors.

    Tidings Brennus!

A great and ancient friend who would never be detrimentally effected by the Khmer. Long live the fighters of Meduian!

Please note the [in-game] communique asking permission to send a tank through your territory.

If it is too alarming for your population I will order it return immediately. Please advise, and sorry for any domestic disturbances caused.

    From: Prime Minister Vsevolod Mstislavich
To: All Free Nations of the World

Russia today is in turmoil at the continued barbaric assault upon the peace-loving and innocent Korean people. The seething resentment felt by all Russians toward the zoophiliac Hellenic monsters overflowed so that Vladimir Antonov-Ovseenko, Minister of the Interior, had to order the security services to halt the storming of the Spartan Embassy in Novgorad. It is understandable given their disgusting behaviour in betraying Russia in the War of Liberation that our people feel so.

Russia is also appalled that they who we had thought decent and honest have chosen this opportunity to lay waste to Mayan Cities at their weakest. The Maya seek only to honour their Protectorate of Korea and having sent forth their fighting men to the South Rome simply marches in and picks up rich pickings for no cost. The President cannot bring himself to speak to Custos Marcus Aurelius directly for his rage is so deep at the hypocrisy and cant of a man who so denounced Russian actions when seeking only to free people from oppression, without any territorial gain, whilst deceiving Russia into providing Training for Roman Horsemen and lending Transport Vessels! These things the President did freely and honestly at your request due to a, now obviously fraudulent lie, Roman fear of Third Party attack of her colonies.

All Russia and all Russians stand for but one thing alone!

    Proclamation from Custos Marcus Aurelius

People of Rome and Foreign Ambassadors,

Our action along the Southern Coast of the Roman sea to protect the exposed Roman coastline from continuing Mayan threats, continues to be successful.

Militarily - Our naval and land forces continue to make good progress, though not without cost. Mayan resistance continues to be strong, and can be anticipated to only increase as their government adjusts to the war.

Diplomatically - You ought to be aware of the messages from many nations, some surprising ones, indicating that they understand the reason we had to act in this way. Many understandably urge restraint, which of course it our intention, but there has not been a single expression of opposition from a world power.

Internally - I am thankful for the huge support from the Roman people for their soliders and sailors. I am also thankful for the unanimous vote of support from the house of representatives.

The Roman way is always to have clear restrained aims in war. The leaders of the house of representatives have asked that these are make clear. I am now happy to do this, for the armed forces no longer seek these to be secret for strategic reasons.

In keeping with the need to safeguard the Roman coastline from Mayan piracy and threats, Roman forces will establish control north of a line running west-east from the point in the west of the Mayan land two tiles inland from the Roman sea. They will also take control of the two Mayan islands which lie in or ajoin the Roman sea. This west-east line, two tiles in from the coast together with the two islands is the minimum required to prevent future Mayan operations in the Roman Sea. Roman forces intend to take no more land that this mimimum required.

    Custos Marcus.

I weep at the continuing Spatan brutality the rural nation that was once Korea but soon just to be another Labour Camp for Sparta to build up her Armies of Repression once again! See how Menelaus the Zoophilie's thugs deal with a humble farmer protesting the rape of his land!

See how the Spartan's teach even their young boys to mistreat simple beasts of burden!

Who will aid these sad and forgotten people? These are not soldiers and hold nothing more fearsome than spade or pitchfork to defend themselves. Neither, under sun and sky, can such cruelty be tolerated, inflicted upon dumb animals, be allowed to continue!

As for the Roman claim that 'there has not been a single expression of opposition from a world power' for their craven and cowardly actions can only mean that Rome would dismiss Russian opinions on this War as not coming from a 'world power' and therefore consider them to be beneath them to be concerned. It is good to know where one stands with one's Allies!

    News from Japan

The main event of course is the war wih the Mayans. Just when the Japanese thought that a long lasting peace have been acomplished they got into an other war-against a nation that they know a little about and had no dispute with in the past.
Yukawa Hideki, prime minister of Japan, held a long and passionate speech in the Japanese parliament about the reasons of the war and how the Spartan's action are justified, but the reception of this was bad. There were numerous anti war demonstrations in the bigger cities. The situation somewhat calmed down when they learned that no Japan soldier will participate in the war, but still many demands that peace must be made at once.

Spartan military actions against the Maya almost over

Menelaus II is glad to report that the Spartan military intervention against Mayan aggression is almost over. Almost all of Korea is now under Spartan control.
Sparta is clear about it's intention, nothing of the original Mayan territory will be touched by Sparta.

After the Spartan military actions are over the Maya have the same territory they had before they declared war on Sparta (minus the land conquered by the Romans). Sparta will have full control over Korea though.

Menelaus wants to express clearly that if the Mayans would had accepted Sparta's original peace proposal Sparta would now be defending Maya's cities against the Romans. It is clear that with the defensive and naval force of Sparta on it's side the Romans would never have succeeded into conquering Mayan lands.

Menelaus announces the fall of the Korean Capital Seoul.
Sparta now holds the Holy City of Buddhism, the State Religion of Sparta.
All buddhists on earth are welcome to visit Seoul.

Koreans celebrating their liberation from the Mayans by the Spartans

Despite the lies from Russia almost nobody died during the Spartan conquest of Korea.
Sparta immediately started to install a local government for Korea.
Korea would get the same status as Japan within the Empire.

Ancestors of the royal line of Korea were looked for to sit on the throne of Korea again.

Menelaus II, Emperor of Sparta, Japan and Korea

After conquering most of Korea the Spartans decided to honour their ruler by awarding him and his children the Royal Title of "Emperor".
He was crowned immediately in the style of Buddhism. Many Japanese, Spartans and Koreans celebrated at this event that was being celebrated throughout all the entire, from the furthest northern Japanese colonies on Skull Island to the most southern Korean island Namp'O.
From New Sparta in the far West and the Gobi in the far east.

Japan and Korea were given the right to install a king themselves.
The royal line of Menelaus would be Emperor of all parts of the empire.

    Liberation of Korea almost succeeded

After occupying Visyava and Hyangsan the Spartan liberation forces are almost done liberating all of Korea from the Mayan tyranny. Hyangsan was liberated without any bloodshed. The battle of Visyava was a test for the Spartan army nevertheless. A defence army of multiple Machine Gunners, Infantery and Riflemen defended Visyava, but the Spartan Invasion Force was able to destroy this defence with no casualities though many Spartans were injured.

A peace proposal had been sent to the Mayans.
It included the hand over of the remaining Korean cities, Wonsan and Cheju to Sparta and capitulation.
Sparta promised Maya a fair part in the Spartan empire, like Korea and Japan, and supply of oil, coal and uranium.

If accepted by the Mayans then the Maya lost no Mayan territory to the Spartans, but only had to give up their illegal occupation of Korea. Menalaus once again showed his mercyfull attitude towards the treacherous Mayans, especially his vow to protect the Mayans and supply them with all strategic goods they needed was considered very fiendly by many.

In the meanwhile the Koreans kept celebrating their liberation.

Spartan cartographers have finished what they call "The Map of the World"
World leaders are invited to send in corrections. This map has been created based on the latest knowledge of the Spartan Administration.

ooc: I'm REALLY surprised that you guys have had so little wars at your continent! Look at metalheads and holy rome.....!

It's also quite bizarre that Portugal was able to snatch most of New Portugal away while the Khmer were that close!

Be aware that England's most east-coast is almost between Skull Island and New Sparta (in the far west of this map)! (I have not placed it twice on the map)
The small Japanese island west of Japan's main island, north of New Sparta, is actually pretty close to England.

    Great map.

The one city on the eastern shore of Meduian sandwiched between Holy Roman territory is Celtic, not Metal. So is plenty of the land south of the Khmer that you have marked as Spain.

Look at poor little Russia! Smallest nation on the Planet and surrounded by Super-Powers on every side. :-(

BTW. You have missed out the fact that Rome has also now got a third of what was once Maya!

PS. It is a brilliant Map!

    Report from Custos Marcos

People of Rome and Foreign Ambassadors,

I bring you good news of the continued operations by Roman land, naval and air forces securing the south coast of the Roman sea from continued Mayan piracy.

Together with the council of the house of representatives I have declared that this new land is to be known as the province of Africa, with its capital at Carthago, immediately across the Roman sea from Satricum. Carthago was the city from which the Mayan invasion fleet which destroyed Satricum, and threatened Rome was launched. It is fitting that this city is not the base for Roman governance of province of Africa, which will ensure that this never happens again.

In recent days the major city of Theveste has come under Roman control. This lies at the southern edge of the boundary of the Roman province of Africa, and signfies that the end of Roman military operations are in sight.

Our military and naval personnel are performing brilliantly.

I have decided to award the Medal of Augustus to two armies which have shown particular courage and bravery under overwhelming attack by Mayan forces. The citation will follow.

    Marcus of Rome

Award of the Augustus Medal to the Fourth Army

    People of Rome

I have awarded the Medal of Augustus to two armies. The first is to the fourth army.

The fourth army was a small mixed army consisting of infantry, machine gunners and curassairs. At the beginning of the Roman action on the South of the Roman sea it landed on the Island of Lybia, near the city of Cyrene. The garrison of Cyrene was easily overcome.

However, at the other end of the small island at the port of Ptolemais, the whole of the Mayan army group assembed to capture the Gobi desert as a staging post for their attack on Athens was assembled. Division after division of riflemen, strongly supported by artillery. The fourth army led by Duke Boniface had barely had time to orgaise its defence of Cyrene before the assault began. The Mayan assault was strongly supported by a rolling barrage from their artillary which destoyed much of the city of Cyrene, the Mayan showing no mercy to their own population. The Roman forces hid in their dug outs, waiting, watching. The damage among the horses was particularly horendous.

Then they came. Ranks after ranks of Mayan soliders, regiment after regiment. To begin with the Roman machines guns took a frightening toll. The Mayan lions led by donkeys marching into withering gunfire, day after day.

However, the Mayan numbers were overwhelming. Gradually one by one the machine guns posts were overwhelmed. They fell back to the old city of Cyrene itself. The Mayan forces sensing victory pushed forward without pause. Then Duke Boniface himself leading the curassairs swept out from the port of Cyrene cutting through the disorganised Mayan forces. Those nearest the walls of Cyrene were abandoned by their comrades and then fell to deliberate, focued attacks from Roman infantry, until finally they started surrendering in droves. Those nearest the hills reformed in the cover of the high ground, unsure but still believing in their numbers.

Then in a daring assault at night Duke boniface led his curassairs again, cutting through the demoralised Mayan riflemen scattering them decisively. The casulties among the curassairs were sizeable, whereever pockets of Riflemen were strongly led they formed powerful opponents, but in the end the Maya were destroyed. The whole of the army was destroyed, and with it Pacal's dream of conquering the Gobi and burning Athens.

The fourth army was severely depleated, but it had held together and survived an assault as firece as the famous battle of Velitrae. I am proud to award them the Medal of Augustus.

    Custos Marcus.
