As soon as I discovered we were hemmed in on all sides by our opponents, this was clearly a one direction game to win… make some elbow room – at all costs.

So… since I saw only one possible place to found another city anywhere to the North East, after only one warrior made I started on a Settler – which I rarely if ever do. I had to beat the others to that spot. I also decided I had to have weapons… so started research in the direction of copper since our UU needed metal.

After discovery of BW and Oh No! – there is NO Bronze around! So… forgo all else and research Animal Husbandry for horses, but – Oh No, no horses! Iron Working was next… another thing I never do this early in the game – but this game was different, as I had to have weapons!!!

So… after my Settler founds the second city to the north, I pop out tons of Warriors and FINALLY research ironworking… I find the IRON and put my worker to use. As I forgo anything that is not military related, and mass my hoard of warriors and now start producing those fantastic Phalanx’s.

I then forgo all the usual research again, and head for Writing and Alphabet and having tons of neighbours, can trade for Agric, Archery, Myst, Pottery, etc, etc. I now mass my armies with my two cities cranking out nothing but Phalanx’s after constructing barracks… if it’s not military related… I don’t make it.

Then the opportunity arrives… Hannibal attacks Roosevelt and they fight it out with devastating effect to both armies, which had been huge. So… I pounce and capture Carthage sitting practically undefended. Then declare on the weakened Americans and capture Washington. I now have super troops strengthened from battle and now have four cities cranking out the Phalanx’s and attack the juicy city of Berlin to my south… and Isabella declares war on me. After a juicy victory of Germany, I march south and capture Madrid and a brief pause is at hand.

And so, it goes… around the donut slewing and slaying my enemies with the whole upper 2/3rds of the donut captured by the end of the game using towards the end my maceman, elephants and trebs… never even getting to use Knights which is usually one of my favourites. Took 9 hours to play -Victory in 1250 a.d.

This game was a blast!!! Tons of fun… THANKS for the extra subscription months in Poly!

well done jungleIII. thanks for writing it up. It was a really fun game, indeed. I had a similar sort of game but much slower it sounds like. Waited for other civs to go to war before I jumped in. Adopted whatever religion kept me the safest. the usual.

Yes... I'm normally much slower to domination, and feared being trapped in this game - so I went for all out military with no wonders (except those captured). Maybe I should be trying this more often... as I'm usually a victor in the 1600 or 1700's...

Funny how Civfanatics has a donut game for BtSM this month... did pretty well there too with this practice game on Poly.
