Angry It's time to kick Arnold in the nutz!

    Link

For 2 1/2 months, Cahlifoornya has been without a budget. A record, even for us. At just after midnight, the Legislature finally agreed on a compromise. Yes, it's a lousy compromise, but it's a budget!

This afternoon, Swartzeneger announced he's going to veto it.

In other California news: A few days back, the Prison Guards union announced that it was starting a petition to recall the governor. The union has been without a contract for two years.

And a good time is had by all.

Sounds like things haven't changed much since I left.

Yeah, he is certainly evil :

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has rejected the budget sent to him hours earlier by the Legislature, criticizing it for failing to meet his reform demands and solving California's persistent fiscal problems.
Demanding such things are certainly evil
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

This appears to be the first time that the Governator has actually kept to his principles and taken a stand.

So when Bush says something and sticks by it, condemn him. When this whacko says something though, it's gold?
Ok, then. I think he should be standing on the side of the road, thumbing for a ride.

    It's what Palin would do.
"We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent before and it does not work...After eight years of this Administration, we have just as much unemployment as when we started... And an enormous debt to boot!" — Henry Morgenthau, Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Treasury secretary, 1941.

Hey! No new taxes on the wealthy though. As usual the budget is balanced in a way that will do the most harm to people.

California has shoot itself in both feet with ballot initiatives long before the Govenator came along. Its almost structurally impossible to fix the states budget. I am disappointed though not surprised he's continued feeding the Prison-Industry in the state and outside of that I'm not to up to speed on California politics.

He's actually hasn't been as bad as I thought he would be when he first got elected. I thought he would be much more conservative after he reformed workers comp on the backs of workers, and let the big insurance companies make out.

He tried to be with a special election for four right-wing initiatives. His favorablity rating dropped ~ 40 points and all four initiatives were defeated. At that point, he ousted most of Pete Wilson's former cronies and started listening more to Maria.

He's right in saying this budget won't fix California's systemic budget problems. But it would give us a budget. Then we can work on the systemic problems.

No budget kind of makes OneFootInTheGrave's observation invalid. You can't stick to something not there.

Overspending isn't the problem. Education and healthcare are already being slashed.

The problem is that most of the state's revenues come from things like income tax, corporate tax etc, which decline during a bad economy. There's just not enough money coming in to pay the bills.

It's cutbacks like these that can really hurt in a recession. State cutbacks will probably hurt more than federal cutbacks if there are any.

Haven't you heard? There aren't any rich people left in CA because of high taxes. They all moved to Kansas.

I heard that on Limbaugh or something.

There never were. Everyone in California is a socialist in sharpie's universe, and socialists hate money. Ergo, there are no rich people.

Theben, that's just not true. Socialists love money. Other people's money, that is. What socialists hate is WORKING for their money, you know, earning it.

Yeah, it's like the poor, underpaid police officers and firefighters here in Austin. Their wages are pretty much the highest in the nation, the public safety budget is threatening to create a fiscal crisis, and still these ******* unions are trying to squeeze more out of us.

You know, I've never belonged to a union, and I feel neither unpaid, mistreated, or held back. I also don't feel that I've ever been treated unfairly at raise/promotion time. Unions They may have had their place once, but now they need to be broken. Hard.
