  • ACDG5: New Units

    This thread discusses the CMN-created units in Alpha Centauri Democracy Game 5 ("ACDG5"). This thread is for readers interested in the game's details. Anyone may post questions and comments about the units in this thread.

    ACDG5 started the game with 3 Unity Supply Droids.

    They have Repair (has a nice red cross) and Slow (not sure what this does on an infantry chassis) special abilities.

    The Datalinks gives the following information:

    Unity Supply Droid
    Equipment: Supply Transport
    Defense: 1
    Moves: Land 1
    Cost: 10
    Prerequisites: Not Available

    Mart posted the following notes about Unity Supply Droids in the Planetmind TTT thread in the AC Multiplayer forum:

    Notes:
    • Your unity supply droids are not homed, since you start without a base. They cannot crawl until you home them. Right click menu in the base screen does not give that option if the unit is independent. You can do it by selecting the unit after you create the base and from keyboard use CTRL+H
    • Check F1 screen for other pre-defined units. Unity supply droid has forced cost of 1 row, but cannot be built. When used for Secret Project or prototype it adds only 1 row of minerals.
    • About crawling - when your crawler exhaust all its move points you can still order it to crawl. Click it and use "o" from keyboard. When there is more than 1 unit on a tile, use right click menu and then "activate units here..." select crawler and give it an order. You can use this method for all other units when giving exhausted units orders.
    • Watch out for mindworms. Protect your unity supply droids when crawling from tiles near fungus - a scout patrol stationed there may be worth it. I lost one droid in game testing...
    • First turns are crucial for further success. Make good use of bonus resources and unity supply droids. Plan ahead. AI is moderately enhanced but it may give you troubles if you don't grow in power fast.

    Unity Former Droids

    ACDG5 started the game with 3 Unity Former Droids.

    Defense: 1
    Moves: Land 1
    Cost: 10
    Prerequisites: Not Available

    Notes
    (1) Regular formers have a cost of 20 and a prerequisite of Centauri Ecology. Otherwise Unity Former Droids have the same statistics as formers.
    (2) Like regular formers, fungus does not impede the movement of former droids. If a former droid has a whole movement point, it will always enter a fungus square, unlike any other unit. If it has a fractional movement point, it has the same chance of entering the fungus square as any other square.
    (3) At the beginning of the game, former droids have all the abilities of a former immediately after Centauri Ecology is discovered:
    • cultivate farm (4 turns; unavailable in rocky squares)
    • construct mine (8 turns)
    • construct solar collector (flat: 4 turns; rolling: 6 turns; rocky: 8 turns)
    • plant forest (4 turns; unavailable for rocky squares)
    • build road (flat: 1 turn; rolling: 2 turns; rocky: 3 turns)
    • construct sensor array (4 turns)
    • remove fungus (6 turns); and
    • level terrain (8 turns; not applicable for flat squares).
