    Victory for the Topless Front:
Women in Copenhagen can now swim and walk around in public pools without their bikini tops
    By MARCUS OSCARSSON -

Feminism some men may argue, has its downsides - particularly when it means they have to share the housework.

But few would protest against the latest victory for women's rights.

Ladies in Copenhagen will now be allowed to swim and walk around topless in public pools.

The decision is the result of a year-long campaign by a pressure group, the Topless Front, which says women should be treated the same as bare-chested men.

Campaign leader Astrid Vang, 20, who took her shirt off with others to protest at a leisure centre at Christmas, said: "We women would like to decide by ourselves when our breasts should be sexual and when not.

"In swimming pools they should not and that is why the breasts should not be covered - We will bathe topless just like men."

The Danish campaign was inspired by a Swedish group called Just Breasts, which was formed after two women were asked to cover up their breasts by a lifeguard at a public pool near Stockholm.

Swedish protesters carried out several full-frontal marches in their country but are still campaigning for bare-chested equality.

One of their leaders, 22-year-old Ragnhild Karlsson, said: "We want our breasts to be as normal and desexualised as men's, so that we too can pull off our shirts at football matches."

Activists expect a flurry of similar campaigns-across Europe, including in Britain.

Authorities in Vancouver, Canada - often considered to be a bastion of Victorian values - have allowed topless women in swimming pools and on beaches for several years.

The only protest against the move came from lifeguards who said they had problems knowing what to hold when rescuing swimmers in difficulties.

In Copenhagen yesterday, the city's Culture and Leisure Committee voted overwhelmingly to allow topless bathing.

Frank Hedegaard, of the Socialist People's Party, said: "I cannot understand what some people find so offensive about women's breasts.

"This decision is important in order to stop the idea that women's bodies are only sex objects."

Really is sort of a doubled edged sword. It's usually the ones with the old saggy tits to take advantage of such laws in the first place.

Btw, it's not that funny to be a dane especially if you are a politician - last week the news went bezerk just because a member of the social democrats had sex with a 15 year old girl

Well, for once the medias made a fault - both opposition politicians and the public supported the guy, so there are still hope that society won't be controlled by journalists.

Where would you swim anyway? It is known that waters around Denmark are too cold to swim in and that last human spotted to do so did it in 1870 and that his last words were "buttfrezzeeeaaaaargh"

That law needs modifying. Can they outlaw topless women over the age of say... 35? Young breasts = good but old druppy breasts = bad.

                    Awesome.

What, you expect me to make this post about Buddhism? Fine!

The Buddha initially founded only the Monk's monastic order. Some time later he was convinced by a female disciple to found the Nun's monastic order. He gave the Nun's additional rules to follow, more rules than the monks had to follow.
These rules were for the Nun's own protection.

In short, Nun's who followed the rules they would be less likely to get raped. Because the Buddha understood lust in men, how it works. And he gave his Nun's rules to help "desexualize" them and thus keep them safe from lust.

I have mixed feelings about these danish womens. Certainly one of the Buddha's rules to help desexualize women was NOT "bare your breasts".

Their babble about "Desexualizing" is basically delusional. Womens Bodies are Sexual to Men. People don't find womens breasts offensive, but they can find the feelings invoked by womens breasts offensive - and rightfully so! These are the kind of thoughts which can posses a man's mind!

I think it's okay though, mostly because they're barking up the wrong tree (two stupids is still just stupid). It's the form of a woman which makes her sexual moreso than her skin. Peel the skin off a woman and the skin wont be sexual (it'll actually be an awful lot like a peeled man's skin). It's the shape, the curves, a bikini shows off the curves just as well as nakedness, in fact it can enhance the curves.
If these woman really want to desexualize their bodies they need to mask their curves.

So long as they don't start covering up their legs in return, I have no objections.

The actual purpose of it escapes me, though. I doubt there even is one, except perhaps the need for 15 minutes of fame on the part of the lobbyists.

Sometimes I think people are getting more and more stupid as time goes on. Or perhaps we're just in the habit of listening more to them than we used to. Much more than we used to.

This has been legal here (topless women) for a long time...
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

I didn't really get the comment about the bastion of Victorian values.
Did they mean Vancouver or Canada as a whole?
Didn't really make sense to me, either way.

Didn't make sense to me either. If they meant Vancouver, I'm assuming they meant the values actually practiced by people in the Victorian era, ie excessive drug consumption and sexual depravity.

I, for one, approve of a woman's right to publicly swim topless, provided she is of a sufficient caliber of attractiveness and perkiness and lacking in stretch marks or excessively dark areolae (I really don't like that, except on dark skinned women) . Hell, the chick in the photo could walk around buck naked and I certainly wouldn't be offended.
