I dunno about others, but I am most interested in the building design and tribe/civilization gaming aspects.

Can't seem to find the old Spore thread, anyway, the release date has come out to those who subscribed with a short and boring video.
Release date is September 7, 2008

apparently every race you create can be put into a huge online database which the game can use to build its universe. So your race may be in someone else's world on another planet.

Yeah, which I don't really care for. I'm kind of worried about flying to another planet and finding a planet of Brad Pitts. .... On second thought, I could do all sorts of nasty stuff to them... Ok, now I like the idea.
But I still want to know what the Civilization era holds for gaming.![]()

If that video and website is anything to go by it's not going to be great... Touch disappointing that this is the first newsletter ever, I am not holding out high hopes.
Where's our biggest Spore fanboi anyway?![]()
I do wonder how many times we'll see a planet filled with Homer Simpsons. Will Wright said he had almost created a Homer Simpson creature
I'm mostly interested in the creature building part. Looking forward to the editor they're going to release a few months before

Given how much I enjoy being proved right I'm actually rather looking forward to Spore.![]()

I think I'll buy Spore even if the gameplay does suck, the critter editing utility alone will be worth the price...
Stop Quoting Ben

I assume (or hope) the replayability will be high, especially due to the fact that you don´t predefine a civ/critter but it rather evolves according to the things that are done/not done during the different stages of the game.
Also the internet critter database should lead to a never ending supply of new opponents/competitors for your game/s.
Even though I suspect the civilization and spacefaring stages will be less epic than Civ or MOO, the game as a whole might get very interesting.
That's pretty much what I think too. It may not become a game worth to be called "great", but it does have potential to become at least "interesting".Originally posted by Bosh

My guess is Will Wright is counting on this.Originally posted by Bosh

amazing... reminds me of what I loved about Total Annihilation, an old RTS game by Cavedog.apparently every race you create can be put into a huge online database which the game can use to build its universe. So your race may be in someone else's world on another planet.

Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.
The simple suggestion of a true change scandalizes and terrifies modern man. -Nicolás Gómez Dávila
