    Advanced Game 7 Discussion Thread

Advanced League Game 7 has closed for submissions. Please feel free to discuss your game in as much detail as you want. The more we talk, the more we can learn from each others successes and failures......

Another slow start to the year, but more than made up for with Dominae's superb domination victory!!! Playshogi also racks up an impressive bit of domination, while CyberShy pips third place (no surprises there then ) by fleeing the warlike planet in favour of the stars.....

    The top three :

    1st : Dominae : Won Domination Victory - 1705AD - 5141 points / 151588 points

    2nd : playshogi : Won Domination Victory - 1898AD - 6175 points / 74049 points
    3rd : CyberShy : Won Space Race Victory - 2013AD - 6692 points / 21076 points

    The rest :

    N/A

Congratulations to all those who took part in this game.

There was a lot of empty space so I started out with peaceful expansion. Roosevelt attacked me first, but I was prepared: protective archers, on a hill with city walls and he lost 15 units to my 1 lost unit (unlucky). IIRC, Lincoln piled on, but I was able to defend, but unable to punish the aggression until later. When I got to rifles, I moved on Roosevelt, leaving him with 3 cities in the SE corner upon vassalization. At the same time, I took 2 holy cities from Lincoln which were on my borders and agreed to peace. When I got tanks, I wiped out Lincoln from the main continent and vassalized him, also. Then a funny thing happened, Washington, who was my 'friendly' ally most of the game, piled on Lincoln just as I captured Lincoln's last city on the continent. In the screenshot you can see his stack of death. This was an opportunity to decimate Washington's army in the field, so I did that also on the same turn! (note: relation had dropped to 'pleased' so I didn't feel the least bit guilty about the backstab.) Washington's cities fell easily and domination was achieved in 1898.

Man, it's a long time ago that I finished this game.
I think I vassalized Lincoln and took most of Washington's cities.

It wasn't the the most difficult game I've played, I really enjoyed the concept though.
Later I felt that I could've done much better. An earlier aggressive move would've made this game a walk in the park, but I focussed on expanding in the early game.

I'm afraid I don't remember all the details of this one either.

I used the same basic strategy in this game as Advanced Game 6: choke the closest neighbor, and expand toward the rest. In Game 6 this was easy because of the Copper within the capital's radius, in this game equally so because of the no-resource Dog Soldier. I didn't try to capture cities pre-Catapults in either game due to the generous amount of land available to "peacefully" expand into. So the Dog Soldier's downside (not being as good as Axemen at taking cities) never came into play.

With one of the three Americans subdued, I proceeded to divide and conquer the other two. Once that was done, it was a race to build enough Galleons to go and take out England for the Domination victory.

I really enjoyed the fact that this scenario had a theme, yet played like a random map game. Keep up the great work!

    Thanks everyone.
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.
