Troubleshooting Thread

Thanks to generous advice - we can now suggest the following for theose having modified assets problems.

This advice is for those who are having problems and have a retail copy of the game.

1) Uninstall BtS
2) Delete all refernces to it from your system, including the BtS folder in "My Games"
3) Re-install BtS
4) Patch to 3.03 (now that 3.17 has been released please patch to 3.17)
5) Download the save again
6) Try opening the save.

Please post any other issues in this thread.

Please post what version of the game you own (retail, Steam, D2D, Gold edition) etc etc

Please post what operating system you are using.

I think I just found my problem!

I uninstalled BTS and went to delete leftover folders. I found my renamed Solver DLL and my renamed Original DLL and I ALSO found the Military Acadamy Fix I had downloaded, installed and promptly forgot about the day I ffirst installed Solvers Mod.

When I tried to run the game I removed Solvers DLL but NOT the Mil Acadamy fix!


DOH!

I'll report back here if reinstalling fixes the problem but I highly suspect it will now.

Negative.

I reinstalled from a backup. No modified xml. No modified DLL. Loaded game and got the same 'Protected' message as before followed by a quit to desktop.

I have now deleted BTS again and I am redownloading from Steam. I'll report back tomorrow evening if this works. (If not I will try deleting CIV and BTS and then redownloading both tomorrow night)

Remember that BTS also uses the vanilla assets, so if re-installing BTS didn't work, than I would suggest re-installing vanilla too. Remember to make sure you clear everything out, including your My Documents\My Games folders.

Negative Luck on BTS Reinstall from Steam.

I have now deleted BTS and CIV, and everything in My Games.

Reinstalling BTS via Steam as we speak.

Interestingly enough (And with nothing to do with this topic) Steam is letting me install BTS without CIV installed. I will report back on success or failure and on if the Steam BTS install can 'stand alone' without CIV installed.

I'm having the same problem with Steam.

For some reason Civ4 thinks that the Steam installation is a mod. Whenever I try to play MP games I appear as *MOD* Dominae. So when Lock Modified Assets is enabled the game doesn't start because it thinks a mod is loaded. To test this theory out we would need a version of the save with Lock Modified Assets disabled.

I hope this is fixed in 3.13.

Negative on the BTS Reinstall after deleting BTS and CIV and the folders in My games.

Also I did not reinstall CIV. It appears that if you have CIV purchased in Steam, and you install just BTS it downloads the required CIV files and puts them in a sister assets tree under the BTS install folder. (Good news if you don't play Vanilla and you want to save disk space)

Per Alexmans post on the 3.13 patch thread, when its released it 'will' fix the MOD problem based on different install paths.

Good news all around but I won't be able to play the first round game Nfor points).

In the spirit of the AU would it be possible to release an unlocked copy of the tourney games once round one ends? I don't care about scoring officially, I just want to compare myself to the posted win times under V3.03.

Patch Update: We had some installer issues where different installations of the game (Gold / BTS without Warlords / Civ4 Complete / etc) gave *MOD* warnings in MP and caused problems for locked assets. It took them a while to sort out these isses, but everything seems to be OK now, so the plan is to release the patch after the weekend (Monday or Tuesday). Thanks for your patience (and please don't shoot the messenger).

As Backpack reported - the locked assets issue will be sorted with the new patch due out very soon.

We will hold off Game 2 for all leagues until the patch is out...........
