Actually, yes, it's just that: as I've been away for 3 weeks, things just kept piling up on my desk, and I found them waiting for me when I came back!

That plus the 30+ coworkers I had to interview for the end-of-year evaluation made for not much energy to devote to scenario design...

But fear not, I'll soon start again, as I have many ideas about the possible solutions to most of the problems/ideas mentionned up to now!

Thanks for your support Elensar, you might just have given me the necessary wake-up call! .b:

Welcome. I've found my actual interest in playing Civ is fairly weak, but I love the design and discussion aspect.

If you want, I could send you a swordsman that with a bit of borrowing from someone else (how some people can make real looking chainmail as opposed to obviously not real looking, like my efforts on my own would be, is amazing) is a -major- conversion of the Spirit Warriors in Master of Magic Jr.

Multiplayer Gold, yes, but its bigger than most, so it may fit in a ToT scale.

If not, oh well, but I'd love to see your thoughts. I feel kind of proud of myself for being able to make this work.

I would be glad to see your swordsman as I will need more units for the ToT version!

And I would gladly include it in the units roster if its style is close to the one of the other units!

Apparently, someone...or several someones agree with me that its "worth a look". What do you think? Cyrion, is this even remotely like what you're using? Am I wasting bandwidth posting this?

On a related note: The scenario seems to be "temporally put on hold", which is designer slang for "I have no idea when or if I'll get back to it".

Sorry Elensar, I thought I had answered to your posting!

Definitely not wasting bandwith: interesting unit (the border of the shield needs some work though, so that it "stands out" a bit less).

As you say, chain mail is really hard to represent: I tried only once, and my result didn't come close to what you did, so I renounced!

If you take a look at the units in the MPGE version (link in my signature), you'll see that the style of the units (which is the one I want for the ToT version too) is sadly quite different from your unit, and I would really like to have some consistency between the units (it was the reason why I had too discard a few really nice graphics in the MPGE version: their style was just too different!).

On a related note: The scenario seems to be "temporally put on hold", which is designer slang for "I have no idea when or if I'll get back to it".
No no: I'm still keeping the work on it, just not really fast!

Here is where I stand now (I had intended to post an update one of those days anyway, so here it is ):
              - I have done all the conversions necessary from the MPGE version
              - I am now trying to quicken the "original" scen pace so that it should be over in about 100 turn instead of 300
              - for that, I have already made a few changes and I now need to test it, and time the apparition of other units (from secondary map) to make this doable
              - once this is done, I start working on the secondary maps so that their result (unit apparition) appear as determined above!
              - and once this is done, then the work with playtesters will begin...

It happens. You did answer my question on if you wanted to see it, just not afterwards.

I'll tweak that, even if it can't fit your scenario, I'd love to be able to have -someone- make use of it. Perhaps some more color would help.

The chainmail is "borrowed" from a scenario on Hannibal, forget the name offhand. I'll check your unit list and see if I can tweak something else into a usable form to blend in.

Ah, good to hear. Add me to the playtester list, my schedule is free. Hopefully ToT will allow for events that turn this from a great idea that Civ doesn't quite work with to a great scenario.

With or without that, 'tis a pleasure to help you tweak this.

                Keep us informed.

                  Status Update

                  Nope, not dead yet!

I've actually been working quite a lot, if not enough, on this since my last post!

I have been defining all the modifications I wanted to shorten the scen + make actions on the secondary maps!

In 1-2 weeks I should be starting my test (on the main map only) to see what my newly defined timeline is worth! In that test, I'll manually create the results of the secundary subquests when I would like them to occur!

Once I'm happy with that, I'll work on the secondary maps to recreate that result!

I'll keep some free techs (and maybe 1-2 unit slots) for the suggestions that might appear later on!

I'd suggest a female character of some sort.

A female character who is actually reasonably dressed, not some we-can't-get-laid-and-our-internet-is-too-slow-for-porn one.

I don't think anyone here is particularly bad in that regard, but its a pet peeve of mine on principle.

It also looks jarring to see a female character dressed by modern (Western) standards of scantily clad.

Anyway. Great to hear that work has, indeed, been done.

Send us a copy of the semi-ready rough draft when you get there so we can poke at it too.

I look forward to liberating Pomarj.

I would just like to cast my vote in favour of busty barbarian babes in animal skin bikinis, even if they are only twenty pixels tall! It is a fantasy scenario after all

Wrong kind of fantasy scenario, however.

More dragon slaying, less "I -wish- I could get laid" scenario.

I'll freely admit I have a distaste on principle for his art (the subjects, not the quality), but that debate is utterly irrelevant.

If Cyrion had fur loincloth barbarians with huge axes, it would fit in about as well as it can anywhere.

                        No sign of 'em.

Actually a fur loincloth half-orc barbarian will be there, but as there'll be only one, the female hero (excellent idea there!) will be decently clad!

Any idea (except about clothes or lack thereof) regarding the female hero? special powers?

                            Hm.

I'm torn between recommending another Ranger and another Knight.

Those seem easiest to work with, though if you could represent a cleric that would be wonderful, I'm not sure ToT knows how.

                              Technical question

I have implemented all the first step changes and am now ready to test them!

But I have a small (non blocking) problem: all the new units (i.e. those occuping the slots not available in MPGE) don't show up in the civiliopedia, even though they have the same pre-requisite as other units which do appear! I must be missing something there!

And can build them through cheat mode though!

The rules file is below, if someone can check it!

I have no idea either how I could represent a cleric!

Regarding the missing units in the civilopedia, check that you have a DESCRIBE file and that it is one with 80 entries in the @@UNIT_INDEX section. Using a MGE file limits you to 62 units in the civilopedia.
