    i'm still playing a game on chieftan level (just to finish it off). When I conquer a city, the whole civ collapses. Bit of a rip-off. Of course I'm way ahead in power. What factors influence this decision/consequence. presumably level of difficulty and power difference.

    There is a victory condition that causes this to occur. iirc it is Elimination, can't be sure the name. I never played it, but if you lose a town, your are eliminated.

    Just turn it off in the next game.

        You can also set it to require a certain amount of cities to be captured before it kicks in as well...
        if you play the conquest scenarios; The Fall of Rome Scenario uses this victory condition.
