server still down![]()
(I bet this game is over)

Good afternoon,
In a few minutes, I will be disconnecting my servers from the Internet, including the one on which Civ4 is running, in order to move them to my new location.
The good news is that the Internet connection and the electrical service should both be more reliable at the new location, so we won't have to deal with these outage all the time anymore. Although it may end up happening sooner, I expect the new network to be up and running by August 10, 2007. I will post an update here as soon as the new setup is ready.
Rusty

I guess we'll have to have a break for a few days
We should all update to the latest patch released recently so please all post here when you update.

And may you have better luck with DirectX than I did!

Greetings,
A component of the server that runs the Ride On game was physically damaged during my move, but I was able to replace it today and the server itself is now up and running. I am taking advantage of this "scheduled downtime" to install some security updates on the physical machine and the virtual machine on which the pitboss server runs, but I still intend to have the server up and running by the end of the day tomorrow (Friday).
I will post a message here tomorrow once the server is "ready to go". At that time, Keygen (or his designated administrator) will have to log into the pitboss VM via remote desktop in order to restart the actual pitboss process, since I have not given myself access to do so (for game integrity/security reasons).
Cheers,
Rusty

Ok, the server and VM are back up and running. The game can resume as soon as Keygen is able to remote desktop in and restart the pitboss process. Please let me know if you run into any trouble doing this.
The hostname is still pitboss.rustytel.net, and the new IP is 75.144.70.40.

(Thanks)
Having taken a moment to catch up on Civ4 and Ride On goings-on, it appears that we probably need to update the pitboss server to version 1.74 if we are to continue playing without causing a bunch of hassle for people who have already upgraded their Civ4 clients. Keygen, I believe you have the necessary rights to do just about anything you want, including adding and removing software, to the pitboss.rustytel.net virtual machine. So, if you like, feel free (if you haven't already) to upgrade the pitboss software on that machine to 1.74. If this is not the case, please let me know and I will grant you whatever additional Windows rights are necessary.
Alternatively, if you prefer, I could perform this upgrade myself.
Please let me know how you would like to approach this.
Thanks,
Rusty

Indeed. I'd also like to request going back a couple of turns, given that at least 2 of us couldn't play for at least that long due to patching issues.

PitBoss is up and running. I had to update to 1.74 and also update DirectX.
The turn loaded is 147 (780 AD) from the latest recovery save dated from 31st of July.
Let me know if this is the correct save.
You have 31 hours to play :v:

Turn 147 (780 AD) (re)played.

Turn played!
Although actually it looks like I'm the one who's getting played. I guess that's what I get for trying to delegate my civ responsibilities to friends with no skills.
Anyway, I'll be playing my own turns once again from now on, so we'll see what can be done.

I got played too, in those 2 turns, by the barbarians.

My civ seemed to do quite well without me. I guess I'd better execute some advisors!

If I remember correctly several turns ended up waiting for the Romans to play, unless your substitute or you played at the very last minute![]()

No notification here either.

820AD and 840AD played. I think I fixed the problem with the email notifications; hopefully you will all receive them for the 840 turn.

Hrm. It looks like I didn't have my packet capture filter set correctly to determine whether the notification emails went out. When you get a chance, could you let me know (again) whether you've received the 840 AD notification? Thanks.

Got it

I got mail notification this time.
840 not played yet.

Turn 150 (840 AD) played.
I have trouble connecting to my email account so I can't confirm whether I have received the email notification or not.

The pitboss server will be unavailable for the next 30 minutes or so while I replace a failing power supply in it. Since this is an orderly shutdown, the game should resume immediately upon the completion of the work. It should not be necessary for Keygen to restart the process. I will post another message if this changes.
