Whatever, you knew he was going to declare war on me again. He doesn't have much to gain, he can waste his units on me if he wants, I have a lot more resources than he does.

Well, Japan just declared war on me, so I guess Salad Head is off the hook for now. The last city of his that I took was extremely difficult. I probably lost atleast 10 or 15 units in the process, many being catapult sacrifices for the collateral damage. The city was on a hill and filled with fortified level 3 and 4 longbowman, and I had to attack from a tile with no defense bonus. I'm just thankful there were no walls.
Why'd you stop the war with America, Krazy?

aebbeka:
tha walls are just defensive bonuses which you bombarded away... so the city was left with the longbows and the hills bonus...
in your situation i would not have bothered fighting yet and instead waited for better units. riflemen are just around the corner for you and cannons are also just one tech ahead, so why bother with cats and just wait some 20 turns until they are all cannons and REALLY wreak some havoc
probably same goes for krazy.
as for japan: i could aide you by mounting a small intercontinental assault if you wish. however, my units are not even built yet and i'll only have slow galleons to transport 3 units at a timeplus, i'm back in a builder phase (banks, universities, custom houses, levees, etc.)

goddamnit, i lost a greatly promoted unit in a 96.5% victory chance battle!!! i hate when that happens![]()

I can't believe that happens.....but I guess it does....

Sabre sure seems to be ticking a lot of people off down south...

those bastards attacked me... bloody cheeks!
had to switch from builder to wartime production... and i really don't like thatplus, war weariness already kicking in after just sinking a few of their frigates... that sucks

You're lucky we're afraid of you, or we would see this as a good time to attack.
too late now. i have built a fair stack of units and more on the way. and the old ones are nice and experienced now
only thing that sucks: a roman frigate (strength 8) killed my battered transport (strength ~12 on coast)! on the other hand i'm just gonna capture and destroy a few cities i was eyeing anyhow. should have engaged much earlier (like adam and rocky)

hey guys
in another pitboss game there was some discussion about code-of-conduct during wartime and i was wondering what your opinions were.
it's a problem in pitboss because you can "double-move" if you are last in one turn and first in the next, this can be expoited. especially in cases such as unloading and attacking, bombarding and attacking. or attacking and withdrawing.
my opinion is that it's ok because it's a) simply too complicated to control whether rules are being followed, b) can be used for both parties, c) it's quicker (no waiting)
in the other game one player actually resigned because of this. the current agreement is that during war time everything possible has to be done so that this doesn't happen... so you always play your turn at the same time of day. this of course makes the turns go up to 24 hours (unless you use civstats).
from what i heard, rocksteady and krazy did not have a "gentleman's agreement" for this.
so my question is: should we introduce such a rule in this game in case this happens or should we keep it simple and say that all is allowed?
my vote is for the simpler solution, but i will happily adhere to the other option.

Simple works for me. Simple and fast, I don't think it'll make that huge of difference. I know it can sometimes, but as long as no one is waiting to make a double move just to do it, I'm ok with it.

I too think it's alright as long as no one is intentionally waiting. This reminds me of a simultaneous turns game Krazy and I were playing a while back. We were both at war with an AI civ. I had one unit next to an enemy city and Krazy had a whole stack. He fought and fought to take the city, while I waited. The very instant he killed the second to the last unit in the city, I attacked, and voila, my city! Of course I was doing it for the laughs, and had every intention to gift it to him, but boy was he mad...

goddamn f'ing shït!!!! i lost a 99.3% battle! i hate it when that happens
in the combat log caesar's unit hit me something like 9 times in a row without ever getting touched![]()

oh, and i'm away friday early morning until sunday afternoon (european time), so about two turns will be queued up. i'd appreciate not being ambushed during that time... my wrath would be swift and nasty (did somebody say "nuke"?)

sorry adam, some of my generals decided that your acquisition of japanese lands is not in line with the future wellbeing of the world and thus have unilaterally attacked your cities.
and because the aggressive spreading of christian religion was endangering the buddhist way of life, our clerics have backed this war.
we perfectly well understand that you might feel the urge to counterattack, we want to make you well aware that as we speak the admiralty has convinced mr. caesar to sign a peace treaty and invite our leaders for some salad...

Ganging up on the game host? How rude.

hi all
i wanted to post earlier but never really got to it.
now that adam is out (sorry for attacking!) i can imagine that he won't want to host such a game for too long. but it won't go too long anyhow. i guess it'll be some 10 turns until krazy has conquered american lands and then it's just two of us... maybe time to switch to PBEM after that for the sake of adam's server. eric, what do you think?

so it's imho time to think about the next game. i hope you guys are all up for it and maybe even lumpkin is available too?!
so far we had following games:
- Sneak Attack: team game on own islands
- Jungle Jumble: large continents
- ???: snaky continents game with me and adam being on the same one
- Water World: again something like snaky continents
so quite a lot of water so far. and in another game i am playing team islands. i'd quite like to try something new. new in two ways:
- not so much water: ideally pangea, or at least bit continent blobs
- not standard rules: maybe something like always war or always peace?
the first is all about surviving (obvious) and not getting killed off by war weariness (you have to consider which battles you really want to fight).
the latter is rapid expansion and then "build it out". this is also interesting combined with a terra map.
share your thoughts
or - we could use a map / scenario, but they tend to be less fair. in civ3 i once played a european map. which most of us were stuck between each other in western europe barely having 3-4 cities, the one guy in ukraine had about 20 cities and still plently of space. but there are surely balanced maps![]()

I know you can load up PBEM's into Pitboss, but I don't think it works the other way around, especially if you're doing simultaneous moves. Keeping the server going isn't that big of a deal, but since it's obvious that Sabre will win, maybe Krazy should just retire and let Sabre finish up on his own if he wants.
The previous game was called Missing Lump, but I can't picture the map at all.
I like the idea of a Pangea or Inland Sea game, or even a map with no oceans at all like Great Plains or Lakes.
Always War sounds bad to me. Always Peace could be interesting, but those who start with bad lands (Krazy) could easily fall behind and there wouldn't be much they could do about it. We could try One City Challenge.
Where are you from? Put yourself on the Apolyton Map!

Sabre and I aren't quite done yet. We're working on something that'll make the end game fun for both.
I like a little water, because boats are cool.
Pangea might be fun.
Yeah, I always have crappy starting locations.
How does the One City Challenge work?
darn, i nearly forgot about this one.
we can re-activate it if you want.
nonetheless, let's discuss the next game too...
one-city-challenge (OCC) is where you can only build a single city. it is not ideal because it depends so extremely much on where you start and what resources are around you.

Well we know you'll win, so it's just a matter of whether you want closure.
One city challenge sounds interesting, but not very fun.

Only a few more months and we can start a Colonization game!

woohoo
although, knowing firaxis, it will take a few patches until all the multiplayer kinks are smoothed out!
in the mean time we could start that game we were once talking about. however, i am changing my job and am away most of august and the first week of september. will be available off and on...

Alright, who all has Col? I do!
I spent most of tonight finishing up my game in the original before starting on the new. I haven't played much yet other than just to look around.
It looks pretty nice. I like the visual style of it all. It's nice in places like the city screen how it's more like "sketches" than graphial. Although, a photorealistic city view probably would have been neater.
The Governor feature will be nice, since those tedious tasks in the original is what took about 95% of the time. Although, I'm kind of wondering if it would be a good idea letting the governor control the people in this case. In Civ, it's basically just I want more Food, or more Shields---ha, i seriously typed that subconsciously--, but in Col I fear the Governor may not be smart enough to read your mind that you have a Weaver in another town and would prefer a specific square be planting Cotton instead of Corn.
Tomorrow night, I'll get a real game going!
Also, we could all get that new Civ4 game going if Sabre's busy era is past.
P.S. Not only do I many times say Shields accidentally, but Krazy and I both tend to always say "Right of Passage" instead of Open Border. It drives Rocksteady nuts.
Where are you from? Put yourself on the Apolyton Map!
what, it's already out? wow! should have ordered it when i ordered other stuff from amazon.co.uk a few days ago :duh:
i'm up for a new game. my busy days have only just started, but at least no longer holidays planned for the next months. every now and then i'll have to travel to frankfurt (new job), but i will try to make sure that the hotel always offers free internet access... anyhow, my world setup request was posted a few months ago (see previous posts).
"rights of passage" -->but doen't that have another meaning? like some kind of growing up test that teenager boys have to do in gangs, etc?
