  • Civ IV Ultimate Reference Guide

    Hello,

CIV IV is a very deep and complex game.
I have realised a guide that covers all the main aspects of the game.
It is a compilation of civ fans contributions and of interesting pages found on the 3 best civ sites on the Net (ie Civ Fanatics, Apolyton and Civfr)
    I hope it will help...

Unzip first the xxxxxpart1. and xxxxxpart2.zip in the same folder than xxxxxpart.zip.
    Then unzip the xxxxxpart.zip
...Sorry I've not found more easy to do !

      New process !!

      Hello,

All right, the modus opeandi was bad.
I'm suprised you are the first one to tell me.

      I'm uploading a new file:
      - CIV IV Ultimate Reference Guide.zip

      Instructions

Unzip all the 3 files in the same folder.

      you get

      - xxxxCIV IV Ultimate reference Guide Partial.zip
      - xxxxCIV IV Ultimate reference Guide Partial.z01
      - xxxxCIV IV Ultimate reference Guide Partial.z02

Then unzip CIV IV Ultimate reference Guide Partial.zip

      It should work !!!

      Tell me please...

That worked...it certainly seems like an incredible amount of work to pull something like this together (all 61 pages)!

How to get the file ...

            Hello,

if you follow the instructions, it should work (i've just tried...).

            1) dwld the 3 files
            2) unzip the 3 files in the same folder (let's say c:\temp)
            you get :
            - xxxxx.zip
            - xxxxx.z01
            - xxxxx.z02
            3) unzip the xxxxx.zip file and you'get the complete file

            Tell me if it works...

You have a special script or program you use to get it to work. Either set it up so it is not required, or provide a link to the program/script.

Or someone can provide evidence of their getting it to work.

                no problem !

No, there is no spécial script or program.
I've tried to get the guide and had no problem...
I've to do so because we cannot upload files over 10 Mb on this site. So I've cut it in 3 parts.

For info my guide is accessible on Civ Fanatics in one 12Mb file (forum creation et customisation/tutorial, reference and guides)

                Bye

i got it to work on the original files. though it must be said Humungus, your instructions were a little unclear and i ended up figuring out myself (i had winzip too)

                      i Downloaded partial 1 and 2 into C:\tmp
i unzipped them both into c:\tmp\Civmanual

which left me with 2 files in c:\tmp\civmanual
                      CIVIVUltimateReferenceGuidepartial.z01
                      CIVIVUltimateReferenceGuidepartial.z02

                      then i downloaded
CIVIVUltimateReferenceGuidepartial.zip into c:\tmp\civmanual and then i could extract it no problem.

                      so to sum up
                      89544_CIVIVUltimateReferenceGuidepartial1.zip
                      89544_CIVIVUltimateReferenceGuidepartial2.zip
need to be downloaded and extracted and then download
                      CIVIVUltimateReferenceGuidepartial.zip
and put it where u extracted the two files above.

i didnt comment on it becuase i only got a brief view of the document, but its comprenhsive alright.

Let's hope the greatest number will now be able to understand what to do !

(for me my last post was clear but certainly no because all the posts edited treated about getting the file rather than about the quality of the file !!!! )

I had a couple of comments on the actual content

Much of the information seems to be more from the manual than "hidden" things discovered by the user community over time. Some examples of things that would make this more of a guide:

                          1. All the work to reverse engineer how maintenance costs work.

                          2. Lightbulb preferences for GPs.

                          3. How the diplomacy system works (bonuses, voting thresholds, etc.).

                          4. The WFYABTA mechanism.

These are just examples, there are many, many more. I'm not knocking what you have, I just am not sure I would call it a guide, but more of a reference manual.

                            Hi Darrel,

It's only a question of terminology.
The aim of this "guide" is not to learn how to play (personnaly I'm a newbe at Civ IV !).

I wanted to make it because in the in the french manual (I don't know for the others...), all this informations and reference charts are "lumped in with the rest" and uneasy to find.

And I was fed up whith loosing my time browsing and browsing in the civilopedia...

I had too, lot of difficulties to remember the abilities of each specialist/superspecialists and terrain/amenagements,... so I added my own tables.

The only exception is the "6 pages guide to civics" (which is more a "strategy" guide), because I didn't understand why and when to change (I'm a newbe)

The aim of this guide is to be near from hand when you play, to be used when you have an important choice to do (what tech to reserch ?, what amenagement on this tile?, what civic to choose?,...) - just like "Rome on 640 k a day" for Civ 1 if you know...

But maybe these precisions were necessary to specify what is and what isn't in this guide !
