So I have heard that my school gives out XP for free (Doh! I Bought my copy).

How do you check if it will later give out Vista for free?

I actually figure that I have given out quite a bit of money to MS and so would like to keep some of possible.

Oerdin, why not buy standalone OCR? ABBYY Scan To Office is a "Lite" version of their FineReader. USA localization costs 50$ (cheaper for other regions).

I don't buy anything my employer does and he's Pakistani ergo they don't buy anything unless they absolutely need it. I thought Scottish people were thrifty but Indian/Pakistanis have the Scots beat when it comes to pinching pennies.

Works fine, I don't know how performance differs though 'cause I'm playing it on a larger screen now.

"We will be offering Vista Enterprise and Office 2007 Enterprise for UMCP faculty/staff purchase. We currently plan to offer these for UMCP faculty/staff download as well."

Are these decent editions of Vista for me? Should I just wait?
