I wonder what he thought about my settings now.

Krill just has an unhealthy fascination with me.

Kuci, did you just pay 400$ to the evil corporation instead of buying toys for your children?
LS: how did you get trillian to not kill the transparent shininess? When I start it up all the transparency goes away(because Windows claims it's incompatible or something)
That's weird. Are you using Pro?

Hm, I forgot to reactivate it. But now that I have it still does the same thing...
Strange. I don't recall having to do anything special to enable transparency (I just copied my Trillian user profile from my XP installation). Does it give you an error when you try to enable it by right clicking -> Advanced Options, or Preferences -> Message Windows -> Turn unfocused windows semi-transparent?

I switched that option back on (I didn't copy the user profile over from XP) and restarted trillian. It still turns off transparency.

Conundrum: I've decided that it will be way too much trouble to try and get trillian exactly the way I had it before, so I want to access the old documents and settings and copy them over. However, I deleted windows.old because it was taking up a huge amount of space. So I go into the old versions thing and try to access Documents and Settings\Alex. No dice, I had it passworded on the old install. I try to take ownership, it won't let me. How do I get access to it?

Widescreen is very nice. Just seems like more space on the sides to put stuff. Something about the rectangular shape. You may have the same pixels on a 'square' monitor, but it seems like things are just on top of each other.

Signed in as an admin? If all else fails, you should be able to do it with a Linux boot disk (Knoppix, UbuntuLive or whatever, etc.).Originally posted by Kuciwalker

Can a linux boot disk see the stuff that's been deleted but is still accessible via the previous versions feature?
And how do I sign in as admin? I thought you could only ever run as a limited account and escalate using UAC (which doesn't pop up for this; it just denies access).
Looking in User Accounts, my account is an Administrator.
Oh. Didn't see the Old Versions bit. Yeah, I don't know how to access those.

You can try to right click the icon and then click on "Run as Administrator". That had to be done with World of Warcraft. Something about preventing the popup authenication, I guess.Originally posted by Kuciwalker

****... the older versions no longer appear, I can't see anything past yesterday.
F**k... Never upgrade if you do not need too. Did you encrypt the old disk? Do you remember the password used for encryption?

If he encrypted the disc using EFS then it can only be accessed by the original userid...

Well it's okay, I got trillian back pretty much how I had it before. It's just annoying.
I backed up documents, but not settings. The stuff isn't encrypted, it's just windows locking me out because it "belongs" to my old account on the XP install (which has the same name and pass as the new account on the Vista install). Previously I was able to change ownership, but not now that it's in the previous versions thing.
Trillian still drops Vista out of transparency mode, though... I've fiddled with the settings to no apparent effect.

By default in Windows 2000 and onwards, the Documents and Settings directory is locked to the original user. So you cannot access this directory outside of the Windows installation logged in as the user it belonged to, unless you know how to hack it.Originally posted by Kuciwalker

Ah, it was a problem with Quicktime. Fixed.
