I've seen some claims in another thread along these lines and it's so absurd in my view.
The US could be running the world right now, complete world domination. We were the only one with nukes at the end of WW2 and could have nuked out of existance any country that refused to submit and be occupied, but that's not what this nation is about. Freedom, that's what we're about and the US is the reason much of this world is free from tyrany.
People say the US is out for oil, but if we wanted the entire Persian Gulf there's nobody there to stop us and a strong friend, Israel, that would no doubt help us kick butt on their enemies. Then, instead of using restraint for the sake of the people, like we're doing in Iraq, we could just be Nazis and kill every tenth person in any town where one of ours dies. The US could RULE, but instead we lead in the cause of liberty.
Does the US have a perfect record in this? No...but we're the best hope around.
