The initial item I would require is to road our own Ivory. We already have Smeg the worker at Ivory Tusks 1. (in Red) He is well placed to complete the road to our elephants.
The second item would be the systematic buildup of troops that we are taking over the border, within the town of Ivory Tusks. (in Blue)
Lastly we would once all is ready, we would march down the new road, over the border, and take/raze the mongolian Ivory town.

It is time to unleash our mighty woodsman Arthur on an Epic Scouting trip into the north west. Arthur has the skills of Woodsman II, and this will allow him fast passage through the jungles and forests in this region. With the impending assault upon mongolia by Concordian troops, I know that the intel raised by Arthur striking out in this direction can only be to our benefit.

The goal of Operation Chariot Races is to seek out the mongolian horse resource, and pillage it asap.
I see a force of 3 to 4 chariots making up this operational force.
Whether they go in with the main battle force for the Ivory Town, or seperately is still uindecided, as they have yet to be built.![]()
I understand the importance of destroying the horse resource for Mongolia.
Once this mission is completed these chariots can then be used in several ways.
1. They are fast and valuable for pillaging distant parts of the mongolian empire.
2. They will provide us with very quick intel of various parts of the mongolian empire, allowing us better control and planning for our main battle force.
3. They could be broken up into seperate patrols, and pushed hard to quickly break out of the northern mongolian border regions, thus possibly gaining us communications with a yet unknown nation.

With striking into the heartlands of any enemy, it is all to easy to over cmmit your troops, leaving the population unprotected.
I am fully committed to a strong force being left to guard our Capital.
At this time we have 1 warrior, 1 archer on constant duty, along with 1 axeman and 1 chariot performing highway patrol through the area intermittantly. I do not believe this is enough!
Apolyton, our Capital, is the prime source of all units of the Concordian Armed Forces, if it falls for what ever reason, then we will be very hard pressed to recapture it with our Armies away up north. Not to mention that it is the largest of our cities, the most prosperous, and our founding city.
I would like to see at least one more unit dedicated to it's direct defence. There is a lot to be said for another Archer unit for this duty, but I am not stuck completely on this. I would also like to see a fast moving chariot remaining available for Highway Patrol duties between Paddyton, The Lake and Apolyton, the Capital.

If I might offer a small word of advise on this otherwise brilliant plan of our most esteemed Commander General....
Would it not be wise to send our scouting axeman Arthur to the North East? This way we can not only reveal King Frederick's new city but we can almost certainly sneak closely between Kublai's eastern cities and the eastern shore and reveal yet uncovered lands.

Here are a few comments I have on the Chariot Rush
I’m not so sure about the Chariot rush idea and suspect it is unlikely to succeed if Kublai gets either Construction, Horseback Riding or Iron Working (+Iron). The stack would be exposed to Catapults, Keshik and Spears which would all be at least, if not more, mobile than our units and should be able to knock them out before they reach their destination.
Coupled with this is the fact that mounted units are easy to counter with spears. In short, it’s a very risky mission and one which I don’t think will decisively turn the contest in our favour.
Of more importance, IMO, is the iron resource. If we can knock this one out then there is a good chance that Kublai will be denied spears and axes. And it can probably be captured with a small group of axe, spear and chariot (who may then continue their pillaging or might simply retreated into cover to “allow” Kublai to try to build another mine.
By taking out the mine, Kublai’s cities are then exposed to a simple sword/spear stack while the improvements can be systematically destroyed by an axe, spear, chariot combo.

Thank you Lord Minister.

The axeman to the North East will also "protect" Kublai's city from barbarians in the area.
Now we wouldn't want those archers there getting free promotions would we?

My own views on “Highway patrol” and defense against flanking counterattacks are that we need spears (2/3). We know that Kublai has Chariots and there is a good chance that he is going to research Horseback Riding. After that - and with the negligible upgrade costs that AI seem to get, his Keshiks will sweep through the jungle onto our roads and Chariots will be no match for them. I would suggest that we have one spear in Iron Tusks and another one or two near to Paddyton.Originally posted by Rubychaser

We will need one or two axemen for defense against Barbs still so I’d tend to think in terms of a roving defensive force of 1 Chariot, 2/3 Spear, 2 Axes (with perhaps some of these stationed on key resources (Gold, Iron)
We could, of course, free up an axeman or two by building archers to replace some of the garrisons.
As for Ivory Tusks, we do not know what the garrison is so I would propose 5 Swords (Raiders), 2 Axes (Shock and Medic) and 1/2 Spear (Combat I, II, Formation)
For Apolyton, the Archer would probably be the best second defender with extra security provided by an Axeman nearby in case of pre-emptive strike by Freddie.
How long before The Lake can be up and building units if we pop-rush everything through?

Lots here my only thoughts at this time are yes we must have extra units available to guard apolyton and also its improved tiles !

With our decision that we will take and keep Karkaorum, the goal of pillaging the mongolian countryside drops down the pegging order a bit. As it can only be to our benefit to take the town and the lands in good order.Originally posted by Rubychaser

We still want to cut their horse resource as soon as possible. This means we will face less keshiks in the long run.
To this end I propose that our 3 charoits (in yellow circle) race along yellow line to horses (dark blue circle) and pillage it. This also allows for Rochelle, with her extended view to open up a great deal of the north (light green circle)
