    Sick PS3 to be released at $499/$599 & E499/E599

Since Asher didn't create the thread, I thought I might as well.

$499/$599 & E499/E599 is pretty damn expensive when the competition is $299/$399 (or less, by the time the PS3 is released)!
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Well, if you put it into pounds, the prices seem more reasonable.

As long as you don't show the pound symbol, and make people think in dollar terms.

    Sick

Yes, if we divide the price by a high number, and don't mention that fact, it doesn't seem so bad.

Haven't been to CG for forever. I assume he has the same opinion about the obscene price?

Why the difference in price between US and EU? Why cheaper in US?

Good question. The discount in the US versus the Eurozone is rather substantial (more than 20% at current exchange rates).

Ah right... Asher is banned for a week for crap reasons.

I saw the news myself and apparently the 'cheaper' PS3 is more crippled than the 360 Core was compared to the Premium. The cheaper PS3 has no Wi-Fi, memory slots, or HDMI ports which the more expensive version does, and unlike the 360 there is no way to purchase accessories later to make the cheaper one like the more expensive one.

    Question

Does anybody have a link to a chart comparing the features of the 360 core versus PS3 core and the 360 premium versus the PS3 premium?

After Sony's presentation last night and Nintendo's this morning there is no way in hell I'm getting a PS3.

The Wii looks absolutely fantastic compared to Sony's offering.

I've just checked out Wii, having not heard of it before. The controller that incorporates motion sensors sounds interesting, but I wonder what is its resolution and how responsive it is.

Nintendo is trying some interesting things. I don't know whether they will succeed, but it's nice to see some creativity in video games at a reasonable price. Reminds me of a cheap version of the Collecovision when it came out. A really fun console with several neat controllers.

Nintendo is really trying to be the Apple of the console world. The logo, the design...

Bad name aside, they've got the presentation down right, they've got the cultish fan base, and they've got the press eating out of their hands.

Of course, this has always been the case, but damn, if it's not really noticeable this time around.

Oooo, I get a mental image of lonely gamer girls using that rumble-feature for something else than it was intended for...

Suspiciously lonely, since they are young and hot, slim and stacked. 's the way my mind works. Not often that logical.

Wii, or whatever Ninty ends up calling it, does seem like the top dog for me.

And DS's linup is way impressive...

And 500$ is like 390€. What bollocks. I blame GWB. Importing sounds like a good idea...

Wasn't one of the next gen machines region free, for games?
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

This is a brilliant move by Sony, they see the trend.

Die hards will line up in DROVES to buy it when it is first released... a week after release, they cut the price to their competition.

Heh... Sony is NOT cutting prices a week after release. Unless they want to royally piss off their base who lined up early. They have to wait close to a year to cut prices or else they'll have a massive backlash by those who bought it first.

And the Blu-ray makes their console far more expensive to produce.

So, no... they won't be lowering price anytime soon. And it's a baaaad move.

Oh well. The only advantage I saw in Sony was their keeping the classic PS controller--much better than whatever clunky POS came with the X360, I'm sure. That's pretty much the only thing Sony really did right that others haven't imitated, a controller whose buttons are all in easy reach, that fits the hands comfortably, and that doesn't look like a rough-hewn rock. But now Sony's turning the controller into more of a boomerang shape, aren't they?

Eh, it's not like I'm gonna buy any of them anyway.

The PS3 controller will be identical in shape to the PS1 and PS2 controllers.

Not only that, but the X360's controller is absolutely perfect.

And the Xbox controller and GameCube controller both were just as easy to use, IMO, as the Playstation.

The final PS3 controller is actually almost identical to the PS2 Dual Shock (minus the rumble feature and plus a few things, like bluetooth and an internal gyroscope). This was just announced in fact.

Absolutely perfect? Unlike, say, the original Xbox controller, with those two little black and white buttons way out in Timbuktu? I don't know what kind of crackhead decided to put those there. With the PS controller you just have to move your thumbs a little bit to access all the buttons and sticks except for the start and select. A good deal more comfortable in my experience as well.
