SMTP still does not work. How disappointing. But there's nothing else I can do than to provide servername, username and password. Various email clients can and do work with it just fine. Civ4 not.

That's too bad, SR. I got it working finally by using my email addy and leaving the UserID for SMTP blank. I had to look up the regional server for my ISP.

Would be good if it worked for gmail accounts.

Leaving username blank didn't work either. I get the message "Need to authenticate..." back, while if I provide the informatiom, I get "Wrong username or password" (which it is not). My bet is the CRAM-MD5 authentication, which my provider uses, is coded incorrect in Civ4. Normal mail clients and even exim on my former router don't have a problem with it. I tracked the conversation with ethereal, may be I can find something.
