  • How Do I Lock a Folder?

I'm running Windows XP Pro. Is there any way to password protect just one folder and its contents? I'm thinking there is and it's a really simple way to do it, but I'm just inept apparently. Anyone wanna help?

Right-click folder -> Properties -> Security tab -> remove everyone else's right to folder IIRC.
    What?

Hmmm...I'm the only user on the computer, and everyone is just by default also on my name when they use the computer. Is there a way to password protect a folder under my name?

Try truecrypt. It's not as simple as clicking a button in XP, but it's still pretty easy to use (and free).

Just make a different account for all the random riff-raffs and password protect your account. Also, make the other account a limited one.

If it's simply a two-pocket folder such as one made by Mead, you can lock it by taping it shut with scotch tape.

Another option is to just zip the folder using a utility like izarc that'll also let you encrypt it. It's not as transparent as using truecrypt, though, because you'll have to decrypt and unzip the folder every time you want to access it, and then zip it back up if you've made any modifications.

The easiest and least secure option is to make the folder hidden.

Just rename the folder from "pr0n" to "uninteresting files" and nobody will look inside.

I was going to suggest just keeping your porn on another computer altogether.
