  • Tell MikeH why people talk about themselves in the third person in thread titles

MikeH doesn't understand it. Why do people not talk about themselves in the first person?

As far as MikeH knows no-one here is The Rock.

So, what MikeH wants to know is how did this silly tradition get started at Apolyton and does anyone else find it a bit annoying?

Only Winston has the answer, but he can't be bothered to explain it.

Maybe it's for the convenience of the title's reader. If you say "Tell me why...", the read will either have to bother to read who the thread starter is, or he'll automatically assume the thread starter is Vesayen.

And you don't want to be confused with Vesayen, do you?

Some languages in the Pacific IIRC do not have the 1st or 2nd person. "Ngogrongo is hungry, is Mbokongo hungry too? Let's eat Dongolele."

OK so I made that up. But "I", "you", really what's the point?

I suppose you could use it as a weapon. eg start a thread saying:

"Tell *insert poster name* where to find a good proctologist" or something.
