Scientology is a cult which has the sole purpose of taking money from stupid, guillable people with more money than sense.

If anyone honestly believes that aggressive political movement against scientology is "against freedom of religion", keep in mind that people also have the freedom to not be part of a religion...

Harassing people physically, mentally, and financially, I believe, violates that freedom...

Heck, if Crack and Heroine are illegal, how is brainwashing not? This is an organization that litterally has the capabilities of controlling very powerful organizations...governments, corporations, universities and scientific communities...

Unlike other societies that are centered around core beliefs and ideals, this society uses brainwashing and "coercive physcology", which practically provides it with unlimited victims and hosts, whereas a cult such as Illuminati would have to find people that atleast halfway agree with the ideals of Illuminatus...

While I'm not saying we should send in hundreds of marines to gun them down, I think the government should provide campaigns that introduce people to scientology (as well as all cults) and explain their history and their true meaning, just as the government does for illegal drugs, tobacco products, and sex...

In addition, the cult should be closely monitored by the government and any illegal action, anything that violates even the tiniest law should be acted on and prosecuted to the fullest extent...

I have never heard of this cult, but after reading about it, this regime needs to be taken down, and it needs to be taken down now...I don't like conservative leaders (down with Republicans) but I feel they will be a good ally in fighting this evil menace...

    Down with Dianetics.

Indeed, a gang of zealot buzzards, who delight in sucking
the money from bored, rich and mentally-stunted people.

Easily. All Scientologists go through extensive "auditing," which not only increases their emotional vulnerability by forcing them to relive their past mistakes but also gives the CoS lots of dirt on them. Rumor has it that Cruise, Travolta et al have sizable files at Sea Org. If they leave, some or all of those files get anonymously leaked to the press and their careers are shot. They're partly aware of this, but the org keeps the collar from chafing by treating all celebrities with kid gloves otherwise.

I think any state can crackdown scientology overnight if it wanted to. some have done so others have "infliltrated" because they think they serve their interests better that way.

but i think mainly scientology is for the money. and mainly weakened or inclined characters fall for something so obvious.
i mean there are great ways to spend the money you dont have but giving it to some thing like scientology, you really must have a screw lose

I support the right of people to be suckers though.

Why should the established religions have the monopoly on credulity ?

well theoretically religion as i know it doesnt have as its purpose to take your money.
but of course that's exactly what happens and it is sickening to see it happen at some of the most painful moments of someone's life, like when a relative dies.
in that i agree. but why give support for even more money taking. plus i think there's a brain washing aspect in things like scientology that take it to the realm of that gastly cult domain

But there's brainwashing and techniques used in modern brainwashing in most religions I've encountered.

Rote memorization, group identification, special diets, seclusion, loss of personal identity, sleep deprivation, group chanting, mortification of the body, public confession, self and group criticism - welcome to 1984, religious style.

I find Scientology to be unpalatable, and its claims unfounded and ludicrous- but then that's how I view aspects of many established religions too. However, I support the right of free people to follow their creed, providing it does not impinge on the rights of those who do not follow it.

I suggest going to a Jewish bookstore or gift shop. At least here you will find even Orthodox ones carry tallesim in pink and other colors a man or boy wouldnt wear, to cater to the Conservative Bat Mitzvah trade. Youre in Montreal right? The Conservative shuls up there tend to be more traditional on gender issues IIUC, so maybe you wouldnt find it up there.

Dangerous, just as any other sect.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

    Exclamation

I heard they have strange and alluring practices to bring you into the group. Like once I read in watchtower they'll have the younger women initiate 3somes with men, to get them coming back and get them to agree to go too Scientology studies.
I went 5 years ago to some free sessions for a friend and didn't get anything like that. All I met were 2 out of shape women, aged 40-50, and the sessions were boring. A session on an intergalatic evil Xenu would have at least been entertaining, I would have even been willing to provide the sound effects.
I'm going to the scientology website and demand I be properly seduced.

That's the purpose of all cults. L. Ron Hubbard stated that aim explicitly.

Some just moved beyond that point to become (self) destructive.

(my wife says I should convert, the Yamakuh will cover the balding spot on my head - and I go "hah, hah"). I'll probably have to put together a Bat Mitzvah myself in another decade and for the same reason as LoTM. And I'm an ex-Catholic!
You see, this is why I don't like most secular synagogues, because they make it about money. The synagogue I go to is Chabad, and is just an extension of the Rabbi's house. It could probably fit 70 people, so it's not that small. There are no fees, even though the service is longer, the Rabbi knows more, and there is always a delicious Kiddush meal afterwards. The Rabbi and Rebbetzin are absolutely wonderful people, each with equal and great knowledge about all things related to Judaism, and even things that have nothing to do with it.
