Too much 'Casablanca' and not one from 'Pulp Fiction'???!!!

...if you agree with those guys here:
http://www.afi.com/tvevents/100years/quotes.aspx#list
Scroll down for the complete list. Surprisingly not much from movies of the last two decades (some exceptions).

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God? - Epicurus

Bad list, it lacks many of the best quotes such as:
"Ni!"
"The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the force."
"Hail to the king, baby!"
"There can be only one!"
"I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."
Any Private Hudson quote![]()

While I'm sure many can disagree, as you can with any list... I thought overall it was a pretty good list. I've heard and remembered every one of them...
Keep on Civin'
RIP Baron O

I saw that on TV last night. While I don't disagree with the content of the list, I would probably change some of the rankings. For one, I'd put "You can't handle the truth!" in the top 10 for sure.
"The French caused the war [Persian Gulf war, 1991]" - Ned
"you people who bash Bush have no appreciation for one of the great presidents in our history." - Ned
"I wish I had gay sex in the boy scouts" - Dissident
haven't read the complete list yet. I don't tend to agree with those llists anyway. Is anyone here into Jim Jarmush's movie?

When it gets to the point where there are so many great movies- it's really impossible to rank the top 10-20 quotations of all time- there's simply too much bias and competition to set the top 10-20 in the right order. Beyond that, though, I can see someone ranking them by order...
as for the too much casablanca- honestly- 1 or 2 of those and 1 of the gone with the wind quotations really shouldn't have been on there.
I'll second the Pulp Fiction requests- "Zed, baby? Zed's Dead." and of course the "I'm gonna get in here with a bunch of... {snip} and get medieval on his ass." are definitely memorable lines that nearly everyone knows.

It's hard to come up with a list of "Top 100" quotes.
However, the list could be more representative.
I agree - the lack of PF quotes is a serious problem, in as much a disagreement with the AFI lists could be called either "serious" or a "problem."![]()

They should of done top 100 quotable movies as many of those movies I had other quotes that I liked better from them... Especially Jerry McGuire's "Show me the money", I like "you had me at hello" better, of course in a sardonical manner.

Both were in the list...
Founder of The Glory of War, CHAMPIONS OF APOLYTON!!!
1992: Perot :( 1996: Perot :( 2000: Bush :) 2004: Bush :| 2008: Obama :| 2012: Obama ?
Maybe they should count the total screenplay of Casablanca as one... I mean, every sentence in that movie is a memorable one-liner![]()

Same with Strange Brew![]()

Good list. I'm glad they didn't bow to the current-movies have to be overrepresented fad. And the best 'Caddyshack' and 'Airplane!' quotes (one from each) were in it as well.
Though I would have liked to have seen "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die!" instead of "King of the World!", but it's understandable.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)
Which brings us to the Susan Sarandon quote Imran so heartlesly threw away![]()

It's a sports quote. They hardly ever do well.

I'm surprised they didn't put perhaps the greatest comeback in movie (especially B&W films) history, this Bogart/Bacall exhange from 1946's The Big Sleep
Bacall: You go too far, Marlowe
Bogart: Those are harsh words to throw at a man, especially when he's walking out of your bedroom.

The movie has tons of great lines, comebacks, exchanges:
Philip Marlowe: Oh, Eddie, you don't have anybody watching me, do you? Tailing me in a gray Plymouth coupe, maybe?
Eddie Mars: No, why should I?
Philip Marlowe: Well, I can't imagine, unless you're worried about where I am all the time.
Eddie Mars: I don't like you that well.
Eddie Mars: Convenient, the door being open when you didn't have a key, eh?
Philip Marlowe: Yeah, wasn't it. By the way, how'd you happen to have one?
Eddie Mars: Is that any of your business?
Philip Marlowe: I could make it my business.
Eddie Mars: I could make your business mine.
Philip Marlowe: Oh, you wouldn't like it. The pay's too small.
Carmen Sternwood: You're not very tall are you?
Philip Marlowe: Well, I, uh, I try to be.
Vivian: Why did you have to go on?
Marlowe: Too many people told me to stop.
General Sternwood: If I seem a bit sinister as a parent, Mr. Marlowe, it's because my hold on life is too slight to include any Victorian hypocrisy. I need hardly add that any man who has lived as I have and indulges for the first time in parenthood at the age of 55 deserves all he gets.
Philip Marlowe: Hmm.
General Sternwood: What does that mean?
Philip Marlowe: It means, hmm.
Norris: Are you attempting to tell me my duties, sir?
Philip Marlowe: No, just having fun trying to guess what they are.
(female, hot) Taxi Driver: If you can use me again sometime, call this number.
Philip Marlowe: Day and night?
Taxi Driver: Uh, night's better. I work during the day.
Eddie Mars: Your story didn't sound quite right.
Philip Marlowe: Oh, that's too bad. You got a better one?
Eddie Mars: Maybe I can find one.
Philip Marlowe: Did I hurt you much, sugar?
Agnes Lowzier: You and every other man I've ever met.
Philip Marlowe: You the guy that's been tailing me?
Harry Jones: Yeah, the name's Jones. Harry Jones. I want to see you.
Philip Marlowe: Swell. Did you want to see those guys jump me?
Harry Jones: I didn't care one way or the other.
Philip Marlowe: You could've yelled for help.
Harry Jones: If a guy's playing a hand, I let him play it. I'm no kibitzer.
Philip Marlowe: You got brains

Let me explain something to you; I am not Mr. Lebowski. You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.
