I am still not a fan of the new look, but then again, I am not forced to zoom in, and zoomed out it looks OK.

Kinky new screenies for CIV4, courtesy of the PC Zone Mag...
A magazine which I insist you all go and buy ASAP!
Notice the British humour, and the new elements in the game - Enjoy!
I will immediately take these down if a Mod asks me to.
Or if a Mod wishes to remove them, please do.
EDIT:
Screenies removed.
Now, buy the magazine!

I want to treat these as a mere taster of the magazine.
I suggest everyone buys it to get tons of game info and far
better-looking screenies than my meagre scanner can create.

It looks pretty good, especially the units. I hope we can zoom in/zoom out with the mouse wheel. Speaking of zooming in, can you actually have a close-up view of your cities? And what's the pyramid in the "rich verdant land" screenie?

Seems like the classic CIV temple...

But what's it doing there? City improvements aren't inside city perimeters anymore?

I hope not. Zooming is probably only eye candy and not really useful, so I'd rather have the wheel scroll the map, which is needed at all times and is more convenient than moving your mouse to scroll.

The game uses XML, right? I was wondering if the modding possibilities extend to the user interface... Mapping keys, mouse buttons, etc. does not seem hard to do...Originally posted by Solver

EDITS:
"Civ IV now lets you start the game in a particular era." Now I know what they meant by making the game faster. This might be interesting (and finally not require an hours work in the editor).
The units will definately need a size reduction as soon as I get the game.
They look good, though (I am a fan of multi-units — too bad the Conquests' ones were not done so far.)![]()

Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

I can see a palm tree with bananas hanging in the 'rich and verdant' screenie!

to the beautiful graphics, the hills, mts., and trees look very nice.

BTW: they didn't show any irrigation, I am hoping it looks like farms instead of just the irrigation ditches.

Seeing farms and terrain upgrades instead of irrigation would be a nice change...
But that remains to be seen....

One can now start in a particular era.
Beautiful graphics.
The chances of these screens to remain here long.
But I have them on disc, so just give me a hint, and I can send to you as in the other thread.![]()

Is that a trade caravan I see? 31 resources?
/me has nightmares involving AC supply crawlers.

I feel an uneasiness over these graphics, feels a little "campee" to me

Anyone notice in the "Do not adjust your set" pic that at the bottom-left a group of LIONS have a barbarian FLAG!!! Does that mean the environment is hostile too now? Cool.
Also, in "rich and verdant land" if you ask me it definitely looks like the Maya pyramids. Maybe a wonder? I couldn't believe that improvements will be outside city boundaries.

Re: the lions: Probably just some Firaxis guy who has fun with the editor.![]()

Hmmm, seems we still have a square-based system but with full 360-degree view available. The graphics look RTS'ish, which makes me wonder about the gameplay.
We'll just have to wait and see....
Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

Thanks Curt, I've been trying to get my hands on these!
Civ is looking good!

What's an oryx or ibex? I assume they aren't talking about that shoe in the shot....
I'm warming to these graphics...the functionality of zoom and how the mechanics of flashing to action points carries a lot of weight also.
Will Firaxis address the PBEM community with a "recap" file of the opponents unit moves/battles/etc? It sucks trying to figure out what happened to your nation when you haven't looked at the game in 7 days and you are in a bunch of PBEMs.
Haven't been here for ages....
I'm surprised nobody noticed this bit on info on the second screenshot:
Within the confines of the game, however, allying yourself to a certain religion will enable you to curry favour with other like-minded peoples. They're not as stupid as you might assume though, and come fully equipped with a tangible memory. As such, suddenly converting to the same religion will not cut the mustard. As one of the dev team succinctly explained: "They'll be like, 'where were you a thousand years ago?'"

Seriously, remove those images, they are a copyright infringement.
For those people who still want to see them, all known Civ4 screenshots are available on this site. Until the owner gets sued anyway
