    ===============

So I had this idea a couple of weeks ago thinking it would be quite easy, very time consuming (not a problem for me right now), but certainly a one man job... I was wrong

Certainly I cant do the events by myself, I had planned to document everything in order from the events.txt's used in the civ2 scenario and work from there, but I still have the problem of learning a little more about the way events.txt works (checked the thread where Peter explains it somewhat but cant find a copy of the manual, I know one exists) so i can read it quickly. But this isnt an immediate concern.

I decided to start with the terrain and sprites, since I know what im doing (somewhat) and its the biggest job after scripting and testing, both of which I cant approach yet anyway without a working save to test on. Since the sourcecode project is in full swing now, theres no one to help me with the events either.

Also because of the sourcecode I was sure it would be best to wait until theres a concrete version from the project to work on the scenario with, instead of using 1.11 and find all the work lost.

This will be a long term project, the thread is to push me along and keep working on it, receive any feedback, and maybe even garner some help.

Heres something to whet your appetite:

Red Front is a scenario for civ2 made by Captain Nemo, and yeah its set on the eastern front from June 1941 to Dec 1945, but does feature Sweden, Finland and the US/UK in small parts too.

            Thanks Peter

I have an early map made, but obviously no cities placed and saved since I dont know which version to save on. I can give you the map, to get the locations etc though.

            2 more sprites:

Good deal Maq. And I sympathize with the sprite units, animation is nice but since there are only a few of us here doing converting I'd say multi-directional, single frames is fine (and having played with my civ3 ones, I realize that the anim didn't add too much but the directions do).

It looks like you have plenty of units, but as a suggestion you code get stuff from the Civ3 Storm over Europe or some of the WW2 stuff (like infantry)

I noticed sometimes the shadows on the mirrored sides (SW, W, NW) of a unit the shadow sometimes doesnt quite meet the unit, there is a gap of "light", anyone know how to avoid this? On some units it doesnt show and mirrors perfect in-game and on others it does. I noticed this happens with some of the Activision sprites too. No big deal either way but i would avoid it if i could.

                        Maquiladora:

Those are some of the finest looking sprites I have ever seen .
                        Excellent work

                          Thanks Leonidas.

... but although I would love to have the patience (if not the talent) to create these sprites from a blank canvas, I do not. They are based on sprites from the games Blitzkrieg Operation Barbarossa and some from Sudden Strike later on possibly.

Of course its still a very big job of scraping, resizing, touching up, compiling and testing 10 images per sprite, quite repetitive, but its very rewarding, as is any feedback, even if i cant claim the most impressive parts of these sprites to be mine.

Maq, if you have flicster you can convert some of these units for infantry (i'll probably do a few myself)
