As to technology, I hardly think much of it transfers from the military to the commercial. The military is not interested in "quiet" engines, for example.

Fez: It is hard to end up in bankruptcy when all the money you are spending belongs to someone else. Subsidies have a way of making unreasonable activities seem reasonbale.
