      • The second one looks like a boiled sweet

        The first one is obviously better, but it could be made easier to see too.

          • I will probably lose my internet connection at the end of this month, for an indeterminate period (until I find a job and start getting a paycheck). What are the chances of a new playtest build containing the trade routes fix, and maybe even the AoM compatibility fixes, being compiled and made available for download before then?

            • that would certainly be nice. Waiting for how many weeks now? Really would like to try AOM, but I don't really want to install the offical version just to play a Mod just because the playtest doesn't support it. Would prefer a version where everything is fixed.
              What do I think of Western civilization? I think it would be a very good idea.

                • Well John what does the debug version tell you?

                  At first I thought this might be related to the problem Fugi described but after dowloding again his crash.txt again it doesn't seem so. To prevent anyone else to download this file again here is the call stack.

                  • New Playtest 2005.06.28

                    Fromafar's fix seems to have made the game at least stable enough for my usual cursory pre-playtest trials, so here's a new version.

                    Again, this version was not compiled in .NET, so it is not necessary to have the .NET runtime environment (or the two dlls mentioned in the first post) to use it. Of course, having them will not hurt anything.

                    To install, download all three files and extract them into your CTP2 directory.

                    Fixed: Crash caused by loading savegames with the wrong number of goods
                    Fixed: Misc crashes
                    Added: More AOM support
                    Changed: Method of generating advances and units from goody huts to speed it up
                    Fixed: Problem preventing play with fewer than 3 civs
                    Removed: Automatic tutorial advice on low difficulty levels, since it breaks mods and generally causes problems (we have a specific tutorial button now on the main menu for those that want one)

                    • Thank you, Mr. Bytheway! I may be able to hang onto my Internet access for another month, but I'm not sure. Even if I can, it is going to be close; I have money coming, but don't know if it will get here in time to appease the cable gods.

                      • Crash to Desktop...

                        ...this time between 1200 B.C. and 1100 B.C.
                        This is third CTD for this build and there was also a complete system crash (full reboot), but it took me a bit to figure out how to enable the crash log function, so no info on those first problems.

                            CTP.exe was still running using 99% of CPU with 111 megs of memory. Shutdown CTP.exe from the task manager. Loaded autosave okay, so far it worked fine since then.

                            Could something be done about the AI settlers? I had a city attacked by the AI with 6 unit army (not bad considering it is still early in the game) but 3 of those were settlers. It doesn't seem to understand that these should be protected, they should not be used as cannon fodder - these are people (civilians) that should not be used in combat, and should not be running around in someone elses territory when at war with the country it is walking through. It seems to know to excort them okay, it just seems to forget that these units have no offensive or defensive values.

                              to me they look identical, Guess that game is done since I can't get any further, even tryed it with the cheat mode with fog of war off to see if something was acting weird, but the game just quit at the same spot. Maybe I'll just try a new game and hope it gets better.

                              game save if needed: No mods used, just reused the same Units.txt and Govern.txt that I changed and works fine from playtest 1 (see first post on this page).

                              • Thanks for the savegame, Fugi. The reported SlicSymbolData crashes had been found and repaired already, but the savegame also triggered another error. Don't throw away your file yet: unless someone starts modifying or adding strings, it will be possible to continue with the next release.
