Hey all!
Who remembers a thread in which there was a discussion about roads - are they needed or better not?
Any memories?
Just post, please!
Thanks,
Bintravkin

Last Evolution?
He was that who initiated that discussion?
Tell me more!
Why? Need to know who was that guy!

Is that the thread whose subject was something like "Hate Roads-- What are They Good For"?
That thread introduced us to the never-to-be-forgotten Blockhead. He didn't start the thread, but insisted that roads were useless. Also had a certain flair for insulting people.

Petek, he didn't start the thread because he had DL (double login) and the other login name created the thread.
Could you give me a link to that thread, please?
Or at least direct me in my search.

Why... I hate roads too..
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

Man, let's not start this again.Why... I hate roads too..
Most veteran players are confident that roads are very useful.
If you don't agree, that doesn't change anything as they keep being elite Smacers and sometimes will win you just because you didn't use roads.
Also if you want to argue with me then you'd better look around you - why has humanity developed so many roads and types of road?
Do you think just for fun?

why would anyone say roads are useless?unless they were trolling

now would they hate just roads, or magtubes too?

And you still ask?now would they hate just roads, or magtubes too?
They become outraged every time they see a magtube and if (god save) a pactmate starts building them, they would declare Vendetta on him till all magtube squares (and possibly all formers who could build them and also possibly all bases who could build formers) are eliminated..![]()

life would be boring without the odd eccentric clown.
Learn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your awareness outward, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the greater race are transcendant, and to embrace them is to acheive enlightenment.

Ya and occasionally I would rise to a challenge. While I have never claimed to be the best player here, it always bugged me if someone new would show up and claim to be the best.
It's not only you.. I might not be the best, but I have beaten dozens of these "bestests" and now I first try to learn as much as I can about a player who says he's good before even trying a game with him.Ya and occasionally I would rise to a challenge. It's always nice to play with some really good player, but the "bestests" get me bored because they soon lose and blame everyhing and everyone for that, not themselves..

Yup-- and even if someone can beat me they are far from the best. The best I ever played was buster. He dominated in a veterans challenge game I opposed him in. It was a 4 player with no AI and he just rolled over one of the other players. I capitulated when he controlled a good two-thirds of the map and with dominant population and Projects.

Was he so good that he beat even your combined powers? It was a 4 player with no AI and he just rolled over one of the other players.
Or did he manage to "divide and conquer"?

Well-- one player made the unusual choice of the cult and it seemed like he made the mistake of attacking buster early. The result was buster picked up some bases and then I think got some resources not to kill this cult player, including a pact. I pacted with the other player and even gave him a crapload of tech-- I probably gave 3 tech for every one I got back. . .. I built up a good armed force but buster declined battle with me and just invaded and then chopped and dropped my pactmate.Originally posted by binTravkin

We were probably at around tech parity but with the addition of my pactmates bases, busters tech rate quickly ballooned to around twice mine. With PBs on the horizon, my key bases were in range of some of his secure bases while I had no hope of hitting his interior
In retrospect though I made a crucial early error. The map is the veterans map over at CGN. It has 4 identical continents, 1 for each player in each corner (no wrap-around) and a sprawling center continent. Every landmass was 8+ tiles from its nearest neighbor. My mistake was not grabbing an early foothold in the centre continent. It cost me as a strong set of outposts could have gven me some defensive depth. . . when I played the same map in veterans6 game I went to the centre early and was ahead when mongoose disappeared. I had eliminated one player entirely and controlled 2 continents and all the centre. Paul and mongoose had teamed up but I occupied about a third of Paul's continent and had just taken out a dozen of Mongooses satellites before nuking him with a reactor 4 PB. (taking out about 4 Projects and about 80 population).. We were only about a dozen techs from transcending so a very fun game . .. I thought I should win since I had a 2 tech lead and control of the satellites with something like 10 ODPs and some of each otehr kind wheras all my opponents satellites were dust - - - - -- err sorry to babble so much-- probably the most fun game I played
Back to Buster . . .. I see my error now but still doubt it would make a difference. The parts of his game I saw was just methodical and efficient. His tactics were flawless-- he had an advantage and exploited it without any undue risk to himself. Also I was far from his only victim-- take a look at the game records-- he won a lot--- Now no one is unbeatable but buster has the credentials to say he is one of the best.
Well, what can I say - I hope one day I meet you and then maybe at some later date (to heal my wounds after your onslaught) I meet Buster in a PBEM!![]()

Well the way I played the last few games, you would kick my behind. Good play takes time and I was making large and obvious mistakes since turns were usually rushed ( forgetting to gift a tech when playing more than one faction, losing units to a worm I could have killed but forgot, failing to keep track of an opponent's military construction etc). In a tough game I used to keep a record of what my opponents were building in every base to estimate the possible position of their units etc etc.
While I would love to play more PBEMs I just don't see having the time for a long while. Before the baby, I would play a LOT when my wife worked. But now she works less and when she does, I have baby Flubber.
If you want to play buster, go over to cgn.. . . He runs that site and there seems like there are games still going on
Yeah Im also involved in 5CGN games..![]()
