Pretty Ogres Marrying Artistic Rebel Japanese?

I have started to work on my second fantasy scenario.
Here is where I stand now:
- The scenario context is defined, as well as the main protagonists
- The raw map has been drawn (still needs many terrain adjustments though)
- I have a good idea about most of the units I'll need
- I know what I want to do about the tech tree structure
- It will be for the "lesser Civ version", MPGE
So, before I start asking for help about graphics and other points, let's see if anybody is old enough to recognize the scenario name and guess what it's about...![]()

Good one.

Ooops!
Wrong scenario genre!
Cyrion, is this another Pratchett classic?
![]()

Sounds like a Greyhawk one, actually.
Will Iuz the Evil be in it?
Don't forget "if Iuz is defeated, he razes one enemy realm, or discards a razed realm."![]()
"lol internet" ~ AAHZ

@ Harry: not exactly!![]()
But you're not 100% wrong, as some Ogres will feature in it!![]()
@ Fairline: I might give you a chance to prove it with a request...
(I don't know what I'll need yet, but I'm sure I won't be able to find everything I'll need in the existing graphic files...)
@ Curt: nope! deadly wrong! And I thought an old fart like you would recognize it, I'm so disappointed...
And no, no Pratchett in that! But I might include a few Iron Maiden references if I feel inspired...![]()
@ Ali: spot on, dear lady!![]()
And if you can provide some inspiration, I'll gladly try to include Old Iuz!![]()

POMARJ Scenario:http://www.apolyton.com/forums/showt...8&pagenumber=1
LOST LEGIONS Scenario:http://www.apolyton.com/forums/showt...hreadid=169464

So, let's explain what it'll be about...![]()
It all began a long time ago with an AD&D campaign that lasted for over 12 years, from 1985 to 1997 approximately. And even if my long time friends are no CIV II addicts (but yes, they are still friends nonetheless), I wanted to use the context I adaptated/created as a DM in a Civ game!
So, for the uneducated (everybody but Ali??), here is what it is all about...
The Pomarj is a peninsula in the medieval/fantastic world of Greyhawk. The Pomarj province got invaded by humanoids (orcs, ogres, trolls, ...) about 30 years ago. Most of the humans and semi-humans (dwarves, elves, hobbits,...) got killed or enslaved, the other fleed.
The son of one of the ruling lords that got killed during the invasion has gathered a few long time friends and fellow adventurers (devious wizards, mighty warriors and so on) and together they have been regrouping what is left of the refugees' families, mercenaries and people looking for a new "land of opportunity", as well as some support from the neighbouring kingdoms.
Now is the time to launch the "reconquista"...
Ankh-Morpork, we have an orangutan...

POMARJ Scenario:http://www.apolyton.com/forums/showt...8&pagenumber=1
LOST LEGIONS Scenario:http://www.apolyton.com/forums/showt...hreadid=169464

Pomarj will be a SP game where the only playable side will be the one trying to reconquer the province!
Most of the units will be created by events or tech discovery, only a few unefficient ones will be buildable.
The tech tree will be used mostly to create units through events (à la Spanish Civil War, even if I wouldn't dare compare my work to Pablostuka's).
And for that, I'll need all the graphics that can be found on Orcs, Ogres, Trolls, Giants, Kobolds, Dragons, and everything that could be related to the AD&D fantastic creatures. As many things exist on that subject, please help me find them!![]()

Now it sounds familiar!
This is very promising scenario material!
Like FW's Trakoria, from days of old!

Ooooh... Orc killingMe like.

I have been working on the unit list, and I now have reduced it to 67 different ones, which I'll need to shorten a little bit more(or make it for TOT, which I'm not ready to do yet...
Here is what I have now:
1) Good Guys, 34 units
- 4 unique adventurers: 1 Mage, 1 Elven Knight, 1 Ranger and 1 Warrior
- 2 kind of Dragons (White and Copper)
- Chivalry Order, including Knights, Cavalry, Men-at-Arms and Longbowmen
- Elves: Knights and Archers
- Long Lost Army including Infantry, Bowmen and Dwarves
- 2 different ships
- Expeditionary corps including Engineers, Crossbowmen and Halberds
- 4 different spells or artefacts
- 3 kind of foreign mercenaries to recruit (Legion, Halberd, Horsemen)
- Milice, Mercenaries and Merchants to build
- Adventurers, Rangers and Mages
- and Refugees to settle the land!!

The bad guys currently have 26 units:
- 4 different Orcs (including Chieftain and Warg riders)
- 2 Pirate units
- 2 different Dragons
- 1 Evil Leader
- 3 Huge creatures: Trolls, Giants and Ogres
- 2 Demons
- 3 Human units (Bandits, Guards and Cavalry)
- Gnolls
- 2 special Draconian units
- 6 "Location" units I'll need for events

7 other units:
- a vile tribe from ancient times, with 4 different units
- Kobold tribe with 2 units
- 2 special "nature" units
So now I need to cut in the whole list, and it won't be easy!
Any advice??![]()

- I might suppress the "adventurers" unit
- I'll probably merge the Knights and Cavalry in the Chivalry Order
- I'll probably suppress 1 of the 2 demons
- I'll need to keep the 2 pirates units: 1 for the ship, 1 for the raiders...

12 years!?! **** me dead! We'd be lucky if we got one running for a few months. Characters would be dying left, right and centre. Retreat was never an option for our players. Idiots. @ Arthedain: no doubt I will, thanks!
@Smiley: yes, many units!

Most units won't be buildable: you'll get them by events!
And the tech tree will be used to trigger these events (and allow for some improvements building, but not much!).

)!
We kept playing on and off for all those years, and what started as disconnected scenarios grew into a kind of campaign, with recurrent NPCs and settings!
And yes, the characters kept dying too, but there was always at least 1 or 2 players who survived, by luck, talent or simply by not being there on the fatidic day!So the new characters were attached to the exsiting (surviving) group!
So you see, we weren't any better than you
The only thing we managed to avoid was the silly resurrection problem you mentioned: it happened for a short while (with players rich enough to hire high level clerics easily), but I soon stopped that by making insane request from NPCs casting high level spells!![]()

Yeah, the longest I ever managed to keep a campaign going was about seven years (at the longest possible stretch of the term "campaign") and that was when I was in Britain where the people don't care if you play D&D as long as you are consenting adults in the privacy of your own home. (I was 11 at the time.)
I recall my brother came up with a surprisingly gritty and mature interpretation of the "Super Mario Bros" world, for AD&D. Something about a sprawling fungal empire on one hand where the air is so hallucinogenic that you will go insane living there too long, and a lizard-king empire on the other bent on developing and industrializing said mushroom kingdom. The human PCs were taking the fight to the lizard empire basically because it was the greater of the two evils. The campaign ended with the destruction of both empires and the supremacy of the humans. Quite the departure from your usual Italian plumber based shenanigans.
*cough*
Anyway, is Iuz going to be controlling any legions of undead? I know the Pomarj is more Orcs 'n' Goblins, but it might be worth throwing the Flanaess in there too and mixing up two rival Evil Empires.
(I would also suggest putting in the city state of Knurl and having a powerful wizard there from the Zal'honan lineage... extra prizes for guessing this dude's importance!)

Yes, having Iuz and his undead would be great! But I'm afraid I'll be severely limited by the number of unit slots available, so I don't know how I can do that...Anyway, is Iuz going to be controlling any legions of undead? Of course, there is the possibility of using TOT, but I'll keep that for version 2.0 (n'est-ce pas Gareth...)
Anyway, as the map is restricted to Pomarj and its really close areas, there won't be space for Iuz Empire! But maybe I can stick a few skeletons in...![]()
Anyway, a 2nd Evil Empire will be provided (Ancient Suloise anyone?? )
Again, Knurl is too far away (Bone March, if I'm not mistaken...) to find a place in the scenario!(I would also suggest putting in the city state of Knurl and having a powerful wizard there from the Zal'honan lineage... extra prizes for guessing this dude's importance!)
As for this mysterious wizard, you'll have to explain how important he is (a former character??)![]()

Ok, I've been able to find most of the units I need (80-90% of them); those are ready or need only a few modifications I hope to be able to do myself!
![]()
Nearly all the units I found came from Bitterfrost, ROTK or were done by Fairline!![]()
Now, I wasn't able to find some of the units I need, at least not looking good with the rest of the set.
So could some of you please help for those unit??
Here is what I would need:
1) Heroes:
- a good looking young mage
- a warrior in chain mail wielding a two-handed sword
- a heavily armored elven knight
2) Elves (led by the afore mentioned knight):
- medium cavalry
- archers (not forest elves though)
3) Miscellaneous:
- combat engineers
- adventurers (maybe a unit with 2-3 characters on it??)
- low level mage (not too colourful)
- a horn (like the one used to bring down the walls of Jericho!) (it was made by Iuz, if this can inspire you...)
And I already have nearly all I need for the bad ones!

About the elves sounds great.
About the other units.. you should post three adventure-like units, then someone can resize them for you into one.
Here are some mages, the first one is made by curt, I just did a minor modification 8removed a sword). The second one is also made by him, as is the last one. the third one is made by Curt too, though I added Gandalf's staff and an elf-like head. This was just an impulse thing, as I didn't want him to have that bone head. Also a suggestion how you can modify the units.
Anyways, hope you can use them or modify them to fit your scen.![]()
