Getting the Angels' Commlink

Given the recent Gaian dithering on trading it, should we (this turn, right now) buy the commlink from yang and open negotiations with the Angels?

I vote yes. I'm already composing a statement: the fact that they've pulled back on the trade gives us enough reason and justification to call off the trade. Let's make the Greenies sweat a bit.

I vote yes too. This is imho just a trick to delay us getting the Angel frequency.

Btw, just mentioning it, we could exploit their withdrawal from their commlink trade agreement as an excuse to cancel or renegotiate the IndAut trade after all.

Oh yeah, if we get the Angel frequency now, we should probably offer it to Morgan immediately (or the other way around offer the Morganite frequency to the Angels). Perhaps the Gaian commlink trade delay has that reason: they want to sell the Morganites the Angel frequency before we can.

Are we sure the possible extended duration of a no-trade clause is really worth it? There is a considerable risk that we'll end up without IndAuto, perhaps for a long time.

True. I was hoping for a more responsive Morgan to get IndAut, but that might be wishful thinking seeing their non-response in the embassy.

We couild always straight out offer Morgan GS for IA on a pre-accepted basis - that way they - and we - would have the tech next turn

Then, if they agree, pull out of the Gaian trade completely

The Morganites have yet to respond to us in the meeting room. I doubt they are able to react to the proposal that quickly.

I suggest (as time is ticking on our second 24 hours) that I open the turn, buy the commlink from Yang, then Kassi can e-mail a couple of the Angels players to give them the Embassy URL (maybe posting a welcoming message) and let's see what happens

Naw - as regards the Gaians, I suggest just that you post that message that we've produced in their thread (just coldly telling them not to offer it next turn - let them draw their own conclusions)

And to be safe I'd contact two or 3 angels both by e-mail and PM

(But I'm still waiting for the concensus to agree that we buy it from Yang - I don't want to piss of KK or Zeiter [especially after KK's query yesterday about how decisions are made]. I am poised with the turn open)

Don't bother. I treied it on my laptop, and he still won't talk

So we need to re-evaluate. How badly do we want the Angels' commlink (I can think of other things we can do with the 25 ec's)

Well. We don't have an urgent need of talking to them. But, do we think the Gaians will be willing to part with the commlink as cheaply next time? When will Yang feel like picking up the phone?

Yesterday, when I was doing the calcs, he was willing to talk. Well, enough to ask about pacting against the Gaians.

(I bet that Maniac had it right - they're stalling so that they can sell it to morgan next turn before we do. Next turn we should enquire from Morgan if he has it and possibly look at them as a source if Yang won't talk)
