I agree wholeheartedly.

A beatifull game, with real 3D maps and unities.
Transparant water, more réalistic cities, etc...

I agree wholeheartedly.

So far so good...![]()

It may come true...
If it's a characteristic we all wish.
With a good 3D engine it will be possible.

The customer command...

I'm all for better graphics
However, I'd much rather have Firaxis work on improving game features than spend all that time working on graphics and just giving us a rehash of Civ3 in the end.

At a particular time in a battle, you can pick a unit and see the battle in first person
or is this going to far

Way too far.
Key words: Grand Strategy.

Command & conquer, others, have this yet !
Beautyfull 3D graphics is a minimum...
For a modern game.

not too low!!!! A new version of the game should expand on the existing capabilities, graphics, etc.
Each version of Civ (1 to 2; 2 to 3) had a vast improvement in graphics. There's no reason to reverse this trend.
I agree it that graphics work should not be at the expense of gameplay, but the opposite is also true. I don't want cIV to look just like C3C with improved AI, units, features, etc. Either extreme is not desireable.
Haven't been here for ages....
Lots of people play on laptop computers. these do not routinely have 3D cards (many don't even have dedicated ram for this, but use the main sytem ram for graphics). They should design the game with some thought towards this market.

YES YES YES
could not agree more

So, 3D cards with 16/32 (and more) video RAM, and a good processor are requirded for modern games.
And the next games a lot more...
A new Civ must use 3D graphics, or it will be overthrown by the others...

But the discution is on a new CivIV with 3D graphics.
A lot of strategics games use 3D engines.
What kind of 3D graphics do you expect ?
For the maps, unities, cities, wonders ?

I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

It would be good if 3D units were used WITH weapons separate from the main unit graphic, so you could easily upgrade a Bow and Arrow to Musket, and have it easier to draw them, then you could use the same weapon gfx on a mounted horse rider. You could also have each Culture type have a different body or flag model.
I'm talking about multiple object units, such as a tank turret on a tank body which can rotate separately.
It would be great if this could be done like Alpha Centauri, where the player can design the units from component bits.. deciding if it has tracks, wheels, horses for power. Decide different armor types.. different power types etc.
This also allows far more units, and saves memory.
I would rather have a few custom designed good units than hundreds of un-manageable basic units.
It would be nice to see bullets and shells from artilerry etc shown properly.. flying to the target over 4 squares, maybe bouncing once or ricocheting.
A good thing would be to have 3d graphics so you can zoom in close to actually see the battles better.
It would be nice to see buildings and roads exploding .

I'd clearly not buy the game if it doesn't run on my computer, and won't buy it if it's 3D. 3D for strategy games is crap, leave it to CAD.

and some of us no longer buy games because of that reason. So, 3D cards with 16/32 (and more) video RAM, and a good processor are requirded for modern games.
If Civ IV has the same system reqs for the Sims, that's an appropriate level that most people possess on their computers- any more limits the audience and the possible salability.
besides 3D-graphics look horrible. Civ I, II graphics were far better than Civ III's.

3D, as LDiCesare mentioned- looks good only in action, sports, and sim games- it doesn't look good in strategy or wargames![]()

Go with th 3D graphics

3D cities growin' like in Simcity 4

I would prefer a simple representational map that gives me information. (I liked the maps in Civ2 more than I like the fancier Civ3 maps).

Most people today(gaming) have a GHz computer and lots of RAM. That will be even more a fact when this game comes out. Therefore I presume a vast improvment of graphics, both to please us, and to please the new costumers. After all, Soren have stated that gaining new players is a must. Now, SimCity cities isa to take it a bit far...

When entering the city view by clicking a city on the map I would like to feel if I zoomed into the city and gradually saw more details of it (houses, improvements etc.) and when exiting zooming out to the main map view, all seamlessly. The city view of civ1 could be as a working example, but with nice integration with the main map.
