    So what's the manual like?

I saw MoO3 discounted to $15NZ ($10US) today at a local gaming shop. I am tempted to buy it, however I do not really want to waste the money on a game I am told is difficult to get into (have never played the other MoOs) unless it has a good manual or playguide.

Does it come with a good manual, or is there such a guide somewhere that will explain the mysteries of MoO3?

The manual is quite poor. QS was supposed to do an updated manual, but as with so many of their other promises, this one also went unfounded.

The best way to learn the game is to check out the various Strategy threads over at AtariMOO. Play a sample game or two, then come ask questions (or search for answers). People are generally quite helpful and friendly.

    People read the manual?
The manual lacked focus so it won't help much. I think there is a better one (fan based) online but I don't remember where right now.

The manual comes with a decent backstory. The rest of the manual is an interesting work of fiction.

The strategy guide is next to worthless. The game has a long learning curve and has prevented me from trying the patch.

I can no longer remember how to do all the things and do not want to start over.

Having played Moo1 and Moo2 will do nothing for you except help you understand the story and make you appreciate those games more.

The thing I liked about the strategy guide is that it (accidentally) had the first picture of the "secret" race before the game came out (which I reported to DanQ as a news item here). Finding the Ithkul there indirectly prompted me to register here as well.

the strat forums are very good. to their credit the people at QS and stormhound have been very helpful in figuring things out.

I have a bunch of stuff on how the deas work, through trial and experimentation have figured out how to eliminate the "cat herding" experience of managing task forces, how to design ships the AI will build, why you should not build humans, all kinds of useful stuff.
